Cal 46 My dock on Bayou Chico
I have always been a long term dreamer/planner, but in 2007 I suffered total vestibular dysfunction from an overdose of the antibiotic gentamicin while in a hospital. So I have no balance, but have learned to cope. ODAAT (One Day At A Time) was the name my wife chose for the Panga I rebuilt. I had always wanted a panga after seeing them in Mexico, Central & South America, so needing something to keep me busy after my damage, I found this one on our local fishing forum that had severe damage - like me.

Since the ODAAT is a powerboat, I will share the name of my Cal Cruising 46, "Satori", which is the name given her in 1967 when she was launched by her first owner, Jack Jensen, the founder of Jensen Marine/ Cal Boats. He sold the business and sailed her around the world, returning to Newport Beach, CA where he died at age 53 from a rare blood disease. I bought her in 1982 and still have her at my dock on Bayou Chico, FL. May 17, 2015 will be 33 years of ownership. We cruised from Long Beach, CA in 1988 to 2007 when I was damaged. Those of you familiar with Zen will recognize the name and understand.

Mine is obviously just a play on my first name and our boat name. Before we named our boat, I was known on this forum as simply Scott (from lake Hopatcong) ... there are actually 2 of us and I once challenged the other Scott to a dual to determine who survives, but Scott "On Eagles Wings" didn't take me up so we happily coexist. When I had to re-register (SBO went thru some kind of format change several years ago and for some reason I didn't survive the change) I had to reincarnate but Scott wasn't accepted without attaching a number, which I would probably forget. But by this time our boat was re-named. My grandfather had a Ford Thunderbird convertible back in the early 60's and I always liked the emblem and the word. On our small lake, the sail area on our 27' boat is about as big as exists, so I feel like the giant bird on our lake. My, how that will change when we eventually more her to a larger body of water!

The spring of '98 I bought our current boat, a Catalina C400. We struggled to find a name for quite a while. We settled on "Cygnus" as I think that a sailboat ghosting along in light winds looks like a swan. The constellation "Cygnus" adds to the significance of the name as my wife and I both do celestial navigation. So I became a "cygnussailor."

I've been trolling the web for years now learning and getting educated on sailing and boats. My username is to honor those that never came home. A friend of mine is buried in Arlington , his name is Ted Guy, he was the senior ranking officer in the hanoi hilton, Ted was mccain's boss in prison and a real stand up guy, so in honor of him and a friend who is a medal of honor recipient i've used this for over 20 yrs now. Boat name Willy Wonka is another story altogether, Willy Wonka story was written by my grandmother, her family owned candy factories in NY many uears ago and she sold the story to Disney and received a check for 35.00, a windfall !!! A guy named Dahl penned his name as author but has a history of plagiarizing works. My nephew found an invoice on ancestry.com for 29,000 pounds of candy so was a big operation.
My Dad's name is Willy, grew up in the bronx and there are other names like josephine in it, she was my great aunt. No monetary reward but i hear my nephew is trying to arrange a trust fund somehow. All the best to everyone here and have a great holiday.
eddie the lock

ps. eddie the lock is a name i acquired in the pool room, i'm a locksmith and a professional pool player, ie world straight pool championships and us open tourneys, getting ready to give up on locks but pool will always be in my life, and the boat will get me to the poolrooms of the world.

I've been using this username which is a slight variation of my first email address since the early days of the internet... When I started college my first Hotmail email address was 'Cloudsplitter', which is the English translation of a the Native American name for the tallest peak in my home town Mt. Range, the Adirondacks. A few years later I started my first eBay account, since 'Cloudsplitter' was too long I shortened it to 'Clouddiver', since the first items I purchased were SCUBA related gear. That handle has stuck for several forums and other accounts.

Mine's not Mr Ducks as most think, it's from an old joke about they way country folk talk. I heard it as a child in Texas and it stuck. It should be done vocally, but this will have to do. You hand someone this and ask them to read it. It's a conversation between two people.

LOVE it ODAAT. I too have many disabilities, and have used the expression for years to keep me from giving up. Running the sink drain into the scuppers caused so much pain, I could only work about thirty minutes a day. It took me 31 days, one day at a time.
