Just received my documentation renewal notification today from the Coast Guard and was told that their is now a fee to renew.
When did this new tax go into effect?
When did this new tax go into effect?
Just now. It is a "processing fee" from what I recall and only covers the expenses related to the documentation renewal. BUS had urged a more streamlined process. All off the top of my (bald) head.Just received my documentation renewal notification today from the Coast Guard and was told that their is now a fee to renew.
When did this new tax go into effect?
If I renew before the end of the year, $26.00. Reminds me of the decals in the 90's where we had to pay a federal use tax and place a decal on the boat showing we paid.Wow....that is nuts. It was free for so long. I can't believe that they did that.
How bad is the fee?
You have always had to renew annually. Now they charge.
Well, we (every taxpayer) already do pay for it, but their overhead just grew, you see.It DOES cost the CG money to renew your documentation every year. Why should the American taxpayer shoulder that? I am documented and will have to pay the fee, but I am willing to pay the expense for doing so and not put that on others.
I'm stumped. I'm not a Vet - but thanks to those who have served.Every Navy vet knows that one.
That's what I meant. Had no idea it was "a thing" already.I'm stumped. I'm not a Vet - but thanks to those who have served. Google says it's Thank God For Google. I can't believe that's it.
i suspect you don't get your documents updated and you get to put those 3"high numbers and letters that you have to get from officer "Obie" on the bow of your boatSo, what happens if you don't pay the fee?
