Can someone tell me if I can rebed my cabin windows frames to the boat fiberglass with Butyl tape or should I use 4200? Which is better and why?

Really need more info or a picture. Are they dead lights or framed ports? Aluminum? Stainless? Plastic?
Why not do it like the factory did, and it will be good for another zillion years? Catalina Direct sells a kit for this very job.

While I totally agree with Don that using CD products are a great idea, I have to vote for the butyl tape on the window frames.
I've used many CD products so far, and they are great quality at a fair price while taking the guess work out of what to use. For this kit they include both sealants required, a silicone for sealing the glass to the frame and the polyurethane (4200) for the frame to the boat. Because the windows sit almost vertical and most people will do this job outdoors I believe the average person will find the 4200 to be a messy install. The Butyl tape lends to neat and clean install and ensures a good seal around the frame.
I say buy the CD window kit but save the tube of 4200 to bed hardware that is horizontal (way less messy). Buy a roll of Bed-IT Butyl tape from Compass Marine and your windows will be good for another 20 years;

I used the butyl tape from Maine sail ( forum owners) and the kit from CD. Window frame, butyl tape (1/2" x 1/16"), rubber seal, cabin top sides. It held the seal in place, and seemed like a good idea at the time. I can't speak to how it performs yet, as Time Out still hasn't seen the sky above. But that day is nearing!

I used Butyl tape to re bed everything (including the aluminum window frames) on my boat except the teak, for that I used 4200. After fighting some leaks in the cabin roof this summer I'll be re doing the teak with butyl.
