Jabsco has reportedly more failures recently, although my OEM Jabsco lasted for over 25 years! Replaced it with a Shurflo. I recommend you do some Google searches to find reviews, that's what I did.

Your boat, your choice.

I had a whale manual pump on my previous boat and it worked great. Thinking about one again..

IMHO they all suck (pun not intended)....;) The companies have cheapened them so much I see 1-5 years as average. I heve tried and installed them all SHURflo, Johnson, Jabsco etc...

If you want a macerator to last a bit longer install it slightly higher than the holding tank so effluent self drains out of the pump head. Yes the impeller runs dry for a short time but the acids don't kill the pump as quickly. The impellers generally survive it is the head that starts leaking effluent or bolts that corrode and literally fall out. If effluent sits in the pump head continually expect a couple of years at best before you find a bolt in the bilge or a $hitty smell in your boat... I can't even begin to count the number of macerator pumps I replace...

Diaphraghm waste pumps such as the Whale Gulper's are more reliable but don't lend well to drop in replacements for a macerators because, well, they don't macerate. These pumps use 1.5" inlet and 1.5" outlet where a macerator is a 1.5" inlet and 1" outlet. Kind of tough to drop-in if your boat has a 1" seacock..

Raritan just introduced a new macerator pump, due out in December, but I have not been able to get important construction details about it to determine if it may be any more reliable than the others. Raritan's older macerators were simply re-branded Sure-Flo...

Unfortunately these companies just copy each others crappy products. It would be like everyo auto company copying the Yugo and putting a Cadillac brand badge on it...:D

Hopefully Raritan did not try and copy products that suck, for their new macerator, and actually did some R&D...;)

My overall plan for head..I think
-Tee in the sink drain to head inlet. Will have use a short loop of hose to fit the tee in. This frees up a seacock for a deck wash pump.
-get rid of the Y valve and direct discharge capability. Install a whale manual pump outlet to the now freed up 1.5" seacock. Inlet of pump to tee off the deck pump out hose. We have a 40 gal holding tank which lasts awhile. In US waters, pump outs are pretty plentiful nowadays. In Canada, nobody cares which is where we do most of our long cruises.

Haven't committed to this yet but thinking about it. Also, you can always fix a whale pump..
