When I removed the chainplates from my project boat I neglected to note the orientation of them above deck. Does anyone know whether the larger hole goes inside or outside? Thanks.

Hi folks; Chain plates? Are you talking about strips of stainless bolted through the hull and attached to schrouds? My 26 water ballast just has little square bars under the rub rail. I'm a little nervous to go out in the open ocean (even as far as Bimini) without adding on real (bolt through the hull) chain plates. Any advice? Many thanks.
