Boom topping lift

I need to go up the mast on two 1993 Hunter 27 sloops and replace the topping lifts.
Before getting there I'm wondering if I can get some advice about what I can expect to find.
1. Tools: screwdrivers, pliers, needle nose, channel locks?
2. Line: 1/4" 27 m, solid braid cotton? Single eye splice or should a shackle be put on one line before going up?
3. Will there be a pin that needs to be removed and put back?

I've used a spotter scope and binoculars to no avail when trying to examine the rigging and hardware from the deck/dock. Any details I may be overlooking?
After all, if you saw my motley crew of old salty geezers and former hipsters who will be hoisting me up in a Bosn's Chair you'd appreciate why I just want to do this exercise once per boat!

Looked around for picture had my mast down last winter. Could not find one. I believe that it's pinned. Believe just an eye in rope. But bring everything up.

Re: Geezers?

Captain - In your original post you mentioned using 1/4" cotton rope for the topping lift. Don't think you want that. Cotton is weak, stretches a lot and will rot. Not sure about the specs on your boat, but typically a fixed topping lift might be 3/32" or so 7x19 wire rope. You could substitute 3/16" or so dacron polyester. If it were me, I'd use 1/8" 0r 3/16" spectra. Spectra is UV resistant, very strong, easy to splice and resists wear very well. There'd be less "slap" on the mainsail than with a wire rope topping lift.
