direct connect, just need a 12V Blue Ray player now. (been using the disk drive in the laptop) 10 ga. cable to a power block in the cabinet along the forward bulkhead starboard side cabinet.

the 23" led flatscreen Visio from costco works fine on 12V battery power
Different Costco's are likely to stock different models. You need to look at the specs printed on the power brick. That will tell you the output voltage from the brick to the TV.

But if you're going to spend the money on a new TV why not just buy a 12v TV?

Go to any truck stop or RV store and you find TV's designed to run on 12v and withstand vibration and voltage fluctuations. We bought a 20" with a built in DVD player at a truck stop a couple of years ago and have been very happy with it. The brand is Supersonic but I've seen this same model with a couple of different brands stamped on it.

Also the truck stop/RV price will be MUCH better than what you'll pay at a marine store. :D

Supersonic is Chinese and overpriced for what quality you get. Its cheaper to make a DC powered TV than a 115AC TV. TV's have always converted the AC input to about 12v DC so they just hook 12v DC directly to the circuitry. Those DC tv's are not ruggedized anymore than any other TV. BS the public! Chief

Chief,

Can you name any LED TV sized for a boat today that is not made in China...?

Haven't really worried about it but quite possible there may not be any by now. I am personally aware of this brand and the unit I observed had very poor audio, highly directional remote restrictions and not a very impressive picture. It is overpriced as well. Chief

So, have TV's now become the "Anchor" threads???? ;)

I looked all over until I found a 23" tv that still had the external 12v converter brick, cut off the brick and direct wired in place of the 12" "12volt" tv. For as much as we ever watch it's been fine.

I made the mistake of installing one. A year later the iPad came out and my daughter has not watched the TV in the last two years..... Just came back from 11 days and the TV never fired once.... iPads were used frequently. Burned up 13GB of 4G data in 11 days between Netflix & Spotify....... Our TV is now officially a glorified dust collector...:cussing:

Most new

most new TV's I see in best buy that size have the 12 volt brick
and way easy to hook to 12 volt.
My HD Led TV doesn't seem too bad power usage and I just
hook up to my built in 2000 freedom inverter I have solar and gen
and so my 2 solar do very good job keeping batteries charged up
and don't really worry much.

So true... no need for a TV on a boat anymore when a tablet or laptop will suffice. Unless of course your salon is the size of typical living room

If you can get netflix, why wouldn't you run it to a larger screen on the TV? Or are they watching zombie movies you don't care for? :)
