tohatsu outboard

Changing the oil in the lower unit of my tohatus/nissan 5 hp outboard and thought I remembered a fiber gasket or washer on the screws where you fill and drain . It has been a few years so is it my failing memory or should there be a gasket type washer on these screws ?

I don't remember either.
I'll go out and check the Nissan 8 as soon as I'm dressed. The Tohatsu is at the Marina and won't be there for a couple of hours.

Yes there is a gasket the parts manual shows it.

The Honda 8HP has a teflon washer. I accidentally omitted one and got a small amount of water in my gear oil.

Just remember Nissan is built by Tohatsu so both manuals would be the same for that engine to even include the small Mercuries.
