H22 Companion Way Hatch Removal Inquiry

Does anyone know the procedure, or information on, removing the sliding companion way hatch cover on a 1981 Hunter 22? Thanks.

If I remember right from the one I used to have, there are two wood caps that hold cap off the edges of the hatch top held on with screws. I had to cut out the wood plugs capping off the screws. After reinstalling the caps you need to replug the screws and refinish

Thanks for your help. To be sure I understand you correctly I've attached Photos 1 - 4 and Photo 1 is facing port on the boat.

So the 2 wooden caps you're referring to are they the wooden strips pictured in Photo 1? (Cap 1 is on the left side of the photograph Cap 2 is on the right side of photograph.)

Photo 2 is facing forward and is of Cap 1.

Photo 3 shows some of the screws holding Cap 1 in place on the edge of the plexiglass.

Photo 4 is of Cap 2 and facing aft.

So am I correct in my understanding that you're saying simply remove the screws in Cap 1 (Photo 3)?

HI Dave,

I just wanted to give you a quick update. Moments ago I removed the screws from Cap 1 only and I was then able to simply slide the hatch cover forward and upward for removal.

Thank you again. I realize it may have seemed a simple problem and admittedly the way it was attached was very simple. Yet I didn't see it.

I also plan on removing the forward hatch cover. Both of the hatches were damaged when I purchased my boat and it's only now that I'm able to begin working on it. There is no screwdriver slot on the screw in the hinge holding that in, so do you know anything about that? That's my final question.
