Cabin cover for C30?

I have a 1990 Catalina 30 MkII; the previous owner made a cabin cover for it, which is getting a bit long in the tooth--torn in spots, in really rough condition.

Does anyone know of a company that makes cabin covers for a C30? I've tried contacting a local Nashville sail loft, but the owner never returns my phone calls and I've given up on her.

At this point I'm considering buying a heavy-duty sewing machine and making one myself; having used the existing cover for a few years, I have some ideas on how I would make it better and easier to put on; I'd probably do away with zippers completely.

If anyone knows of a company that makes covers, I'd appreciate the info; thanks,

Bob

I made mine using the old one as a pattern I extended the width to include the teak slide tracks.. If you have any ideas on how to improve on it please share. Especially on protecting the brows. If you come across a better snap company than the ones that come from West Marine, please share. They are a bit light duty and do not hold up.

The other thing I did was t use Sunbrella Supreme. It has a very soft lining on one side. It is made for protecting gel coats.

When I sail I leave my cover on so I detach the snaps from out side the slide rails and attach them to the first old snaps that are on the hatch, I then roll up and stuff the companion way hatch cover under the canvass. When the hatch is slid back it all moves with the hatch.

I have one now that the previous owner made, but I'm not crazy about his design. Another C30 owner in our marina has made one for his boat; it covers the entire cabin including the front hatch, as does mine, but his covers more; mine barely covers the side windows, where his covers all the way to the rails.

One thing that I like in his design is that it completely covers his cabin, including cutouts (with velcro) for the stays. I may call him and see if he's willing to share his design, pick his brain a little on how he likes it now that he's used it for a while.

I do like the idea that CAGUY made of leaving it on the cabin (at least partway) while sailing, especially if I'm just going out for an hour or so. I may give some thought to how I might make it rollable somehow, so that i could roll it up towards the mast and fasten it somehow, and not have to stow it each time.

Ideas welcome!

A heavy duty sewing machine is nice for such projects but much can be done with a standard sewing machine. The key is to buy nylon thread and apply baby powder on the fabric for the thick sew areas. Use quality fabric! Chief

Where did you have it made? Were you happy with the work?
Yes I was very happy with my canvas people. You probably have some locally by you. I would check around and get some prices they should be happy to come down and look at your boat. The other thing that has been mentioned here, is where they canvas starts and stops? That is totally up to you, mine does not cover my forward hatch so I can get fresh air if needed. The other thing that I should mention is make sure that they use Velcro patches on either side of the traveler. This is so you can put sure boom to the port or starboard side. This is where I have my zippers or the flap that covers the companionway Hatch. Send me a personal message or an email and I can send you some pictures of mine. I thought I had some posted but I don't know how to use a site that well. I think I have a photo out somewhere but hard telling how to get to it.

Like I said you can get the campus to cover your Windows or not you can run it anywhere you want. One of the reasons I like my full cover is it covers all my lines that are run to the cockpit. Keeps him out of the sun and whether. Only my jib lines coming from my roller furling are out in the open, everything else is undercover. My boom cover also goes down to meet the full cover covering the cabin.

I was pleasantly surprised at the cost of the canvas, after buying all new cushions LOL makes the canvassing cheap/it really wasn't that expensive to do my whole boat.

If you want to see pictures send me an instant message with your email or an email to me. And I'll send you some.
