A couple of questions for those of you who have experience with the Catalina 30 universal 25hp heat exchanger. The one that just sprung a leak is a 2" and I am considering having a 3" installed. lst question- will there be any problem with the additional 1" diameter in the space the 2" came out of? 2nd-replacing the hoses is a given, are the hoses inside diameter the same as the 2" exchangers? 3rd-If they are different, what do you have to do in order to fit them on the engine? If I would have to change the fittings on the engine, it doesn't seem that it would be advantageous to change the size of the exchanger. We have had this Catalina for almost 7 years and this is the first problem with the exchanger. Any suggestion of anyone with the knowledge and/or experience of the aforementioned questions would be appreciated.

I have a 25xp on my '91 Cat30 that is has a 3" heat exchanger and it fits just fine. As far as the hoses are concerned, the diameter is dictated by the fittings on the engine. So, replacing your 2" with the larger size should not make a difference. Nor should the mounting brackets. Just a note....I recently replaced mine with a rebuilt I bought on eBay, from a dealer at a cost that was about $50 Less than bringing mine to a radiator shop for boiling out, painting and pressure testing.
