ordered TRIDENT 102 and was sent SHEILDS sanitation hose

what I specifically ordered by name and what I actually received is two different things.... can some one tell me if the SHEILDS brand 1.5" sanitation hose is the same as the TRIDENT 102 1.5"?... is the trident hose made by sheilds?.... they are both black in color with a green stripe, but as I have never used either, I dont know, and before I call and find out why the hose I received does not match what my invoice says I bought, I would like to find out as much as I can about the two brand names and the hose they sell....

I doubt Bill Shields would be happy about that.

Bill Shields owns Trident. His family started Shields but it was purchased in a hostile takeover sometime in the past. That is when he started Trident. Bill and his wife live in Victoria - she is Canadian - and he commutes to the US several times a year.

The hoses are very probably either the same or very close. If a substitution is made you should have been informed before it was shipped.

Who did you purchase it from?

Thanks for the picture but what are you seeing as the significant differences? For example, what is the composition of the layers and how does it matter? It is not as obvious to most of us as it is to someone with your experience.

Trident 101 is:

*ALMOST 2X AS THICK
*TRIDENT #101/102 IS TIME TESTED AND FIELD PROVEN
*DOES HOLD UP TO ODORS
*RESISTS ODOR PERMEATION LONGER THAN SHIELDS #101

IMHO Shields #101 is simply riding on the coat tails of the #1 time tested, and field proven, Trident #101. Perhaps at one time it was the same quality as Trident #101:confused: but it is significantly less of a product today when compared to Trident #101. I actually have one boat where I had to use Shields #101, for one short hose that needed a bend radius I could not do with Trident #101. It is the only hose on the boat that has odor permeated.

Shields #101 is still far better than any of the white PVC hoses but still not Trident #101.

If you ordered and paid for Trident #101, you should get Trident #101... They are simply NOT the same hose.....

After seeing the difference I agree, no question Trident is better. Complain.

I have contacted the supplier and they are checking into why they shipped the shields brand.... it may have been an honest mistake by the shipping department.

I have also called Trident and found out the same as Maine Sail has shown.
they will also call the "supplier" and get some information as to why they are advertising Trident and supplying Shields brand.

respectfully, at this point, until it is proven that the supplier is intentionally misleading people, their name is not important, as I have no cause yet to warn against or promote them:D

These are pretty easy mistakes. The hoses look nearly identical...

so after the "mistake" of being shipped the wrong hose, the good folks at PBS boat store in Pensacola Florida have been trying to rectify the mistake... for the past week.

it seems they advertise the trident 101/102 hose, but ship the shields brand in its place because they cant get the trident hose at the price they advertise it for....

after calling every day and sometimes twice a day, and being passed from one sales person to the next, listening to their many excuses while blaming the other person for not following thru, and patiently waiting for them to deliver the correct hose (and even asking for a refund so i could go elsewhere and purchase), they said they would have the right hose dropped shipped to me and i would see a tracking number... never did see one.
i finally had to ask them directly if they were intentionally advertising the wrong hose, because it sure seems like it.... with the many different excuses ive heard and no reliable customer service it sure seems that way.
they said they are actually having trouble getting the trident hose due to some problem with their supplier.
I said i will contact paypal and get the charges reversed.

they said there is no need to contact paypal, as they will just refund my money and that i can keep the 12' section of shields that was shipped to me by "mistake", for all my trouble....

Just make sure you don't expire your time frame to raise a dispute to PayPal should their refund don't come through. Its either 30 or 45 days to expiry. Good luck.

Based on the two statements, that is exactly what they're doing. They are knowingly sending people an inferior product that they are advertising as something else. If they can't get the Trident, they should at least give you the chance to have shield in its place, not just automatically deal with it. If they can't get it for the price they want to sell it for, they either suck up the loss, adjust pricing accordingly, or stop offering it altogether.

Fraud.

The joys of false advertising. They are making nearly double the profit by shipping the wrong hose. I would not wait for them, but contact PayPal immediately. Paypal will watch for the charge reversal and if they don't see it, they will apply effort to getting it.
