Stern rail motor mount. White or black?

I'm right now about to buy a motor mount bracket, (or brace, or stay, depending on which thread we are fussing about), and it's gonna come from here in the SBO store. Of course I would get hemmed up on a choice. I'm not sure whether I want to maintain another piece of teak, besides the motor clamps would ruin fine varnishing, and I can't take the horror any longer. So.....white poly or black? Any comments on which will weather the elements better? Absorption or reflection? Night and day? Will the keel fall off and start a three page thread? And will it clash with a Yugoslavian courtesy flag?

What color is your boat? If dark blue or black, go black. If a light color, go white.

is Free a color.......i would go with white just in case you decide you don't like it and feel the need to pass it on to someone else white things are much easier to give away

White with black letters indicating "port" or "stb" depending on what side of the boat it is mounted.
Alternatively, red or green as a nav aide.

Serious considerations, and not to be taken lightly.

My mount is white Starboard. It does show clamp marks where the cups have lightly cut the surface and now holds bits of dirt. Does require a bit of scrubbing to clean each spring. Black would avoid showing the dirt.

This information and $1.00 will get you a cup of coffee at most cafes.

Any chance the bracket might be available in chartreuse ?

Black for the reasons Ralph mentions.

Don't you hate it when your mind gets focused on such a minor detail and you go back and forth and back and forth. Sometimes you just need a tie breaker.

If that rail is used as a backrest, the black will "brand" a square onto someones back.

I purchased the white one. My hull is tan, but every boat I see that has a mount it is white. So I went with the flow. It is not mounted yet because I built my own out of wood. But I will eventually mount the mount.

Whenever I have a difficult decision to make I hold onto a one foot pendulum. You'll have to decide if clockwise is liked the black or white and counterclockwise the opposite, can't help you there. Your subconscious will decide for you.
It really works.

Yeah, a silly question I know. However, you do not know lovely bride. It has to be right! This womans picture is on the back cover of the OCD book. I truly hate to lament the things that I/we have bought, only to dispose of it quickly for some odd detail. Frustrating..
Here in a short bit, I fully expect her to look away from the desk for a second, and looking up at me with those dark Italian mafia kind of eyes and asks, "What color should I order?" The answer must be correct. Otherwise, a great whining will ensue. Across the entire marina you can hear her wail, reminiscent of third world country woman shrieking at a funeral. And an occasional self flagellation. You have no idea..

I feel your pain, I am also married to a CDO ( that's OCD in alphabetical order). Hand the pendulum to her. If she strikes you with it on the left side its black and the right it's white.

Go for "Buck Naked".....just clip the OB onto the stern rail without that piece of wood, starboard, plastic, or whatever. The lower end will probably rest against the top of the transom and the clamps will contact the top rail.

In this case "no decision" is a decision!

I was told black does not absorb the UV as much as white. Other than that, Opinion are just opinions.

Yeah, believe it or not, that's the answer I was looking for. I've never actually bought one, and I don't have the time to make one. (I did build one out of teak once for someone else). I thought maybe someone out there would see this and exclaim, "Aw no, man. Don't get the 'X' one because it will burst into flames", or some such. But that was good enough. I ordered the black one. No wine even. It would take straight hard liqour to sway this one.

Dig it man. Just yesterday, she had removed a brand new light fixture, that cost over three hundred bucks, had been there for two WHOLE weeks, and she decides it doesn't suit her. People, that is just yesterdays example...

And thanks all for not shooting me up too badly over a 25 dollar piece.

Chris I have an extra White one you can have and you can tell her it was free ! Let me know if you need it and it is as pictured in the above post. I only used it for a short while. These are made to mount on 1" pipe but can be used on 7/8 if you install 0 rings before you mount it.

Chris, with what your up against I would buy both and mount both. Then when she says "Do we have to have that (white or black) thing on the boat?" You just take off the one she doesn't like.
Or get one red and one green and tell her it's CG required.
