Greetings All,

We are looking at buying a new (used) boat; C42 1999 or newer. So off we go sailing into the sunset. Instead of spending HOURS researching I thought I would ask the experts!
Do y'all have an insurance broker, and or information you recommend? We will be sailing "where ever", so need the flexibility. And yes, off to foreign countries as well.

Thank you,
Margie

Well

The going to foreign country's tends to be the hard part (expensive) :) due to the increased risk

Margie, when you go to Mexico, I recommend looking at an ACE policy. For Mexico, you will want to be "legal" which requires a Mexican-domiciled insurance company (one licensed and headquartered in Mexico). ACE is one. If you have an insurance policy (US or international0 that provides you coverage, just get the liability portion to "overlay" your existing policy. That's what I do. BTW, I have never been asked for proof of the "Mexican" policy.
For international travel and coverage, you will want to contact a specialty insurance broker. I know there is one in Florida, but I am sure there are plenty of others. Sorry I don't have a name, but you can probably Google search one. Good luck and have a great adventure!

Offshore insurance coverage, agents and cost are very dependent on both where you are going and when, I.e., what time of year. Absent that info, the best info you can hope to get is very generic but I would recommend IMIS, Markel Jackline, Lloyd's or Osprey and for Europe, Pantaenius among the best for outside U.S. Waters.

Thanks for the good resources!
