I have a 81 33' hunter and the wife would like to make new cushions for the cabin. I'm looking for sizes. You know it would be to easy to use the old one for a patten. lol

So you would take another persons word about the size when you have cushions there to get dimensions?. For one thing none of them are just square are rectangular. I am going to redo my cushions on my H30 too. I just roughly measured the sizes and bought the fabric needed. I plan on taking the whole cushions to an upholstery shop to use as patterns. I want them to reuse the bottoms since the zippers and vinyl material are in good shape. Seems like using the existing material as a pattern would make it so much easier for the upholsterer.

Yeah, it's just that the boat is 2 1/2 hours away fromus as a new purchase, and we don't have a vehicle big enough to bring all the cushions home. Different kind of challenge.

So, take the foam out, leave it and take the covers home...
Or am I missing something?

Although us guy's and probably a lot of gal's too love to sand and stain and finish interior wood to perfection, I would just like to opine that nothing in the interior of a boat contributes to a finished comfortable look more than the choice of upholstery fabric and detail to which it is fitted and sewed.

So notwithstanding your query about sizing, don't take shortcuts on this if you can avoid it.

Seven years ago when my wife and I were looking for a boat (actually more me than her), we came across one that was on the hard. Turned out to be my first and current and probably life-do-us-part 1980 Cherubini Hunter. The exterior and systems were sound, but still needed months of DIY work to restore to nice appearance/operation. But what caught my attention (and my wife's) was the interior upholstery. On the day I first saw the boat, I climbed up the ladder (recall that I mentioned the boat was on the hard), removed the companionway hatches and peered inside. Then immediately summoned my wife up the ladder. The PO had only recently re-done all of the upholstery ... and definitely had hired a professional. We liked the fabric and the piping along all of the edges gave the interior a refined looked even though the cabin floor and the interior wood work still needed serious refinishing. That I could (and did) do. I can sew well enough to cover any cushion in new fabric. But not to the standard we observed. Piping is beyond my sewing grade level.

The upholstery more than anything (and also my research into the Cherubini Hunter mystique at a discount to other brands helped ) sold us on the boat.

I had a sail shop do mine. They came to the boat and measured the locations AND took the old cushions to the shop for verification as templates. New cushions fit wonderfully. Preparation is everything. You won't be sorry if you take the time up front.

I redid the cushions in my old
H28 and my h-30. Took all the old cushion covers off. Traced the shape on the back of upholstery fabric (top and bottom) and had a helper hold the foam on edge to get the shape of the sides. Darkened the lines with a marker and then added a second set of lines 1 1/2 inch out. Added an extra 2 inches to the hull side edge of each side to allow for a zipper. Cut panel on the outside line. Sew the long straight seams first and make a big bag. Sew along the inside dark line Inside line. and for the few difficult and sharp turns tuck and tack them with temp external stitches remove the cushions the them inside out and finish by hand. You always see from the inside and turn them right side and insert the foam.

The only really difficult ones are the v birth. Do them last.

It's learning curve ! All you need is a reasonably good sewing machine, good upholstery thread a sharp scissor ( and a stitch ripper to take out mistakes ). And lots of heavy duty machine needles. Upholstery fabric makes it easier. .....And a bit of confidence

My wife goes to a fabric warehouse and gets good stuff at a very low price. Did my hunter 30 for less than $200 in supplies.

A real good winter project.

I know what you mean- our old van just died this winter and we had a hard time getting that huge quarter berth cushion into our car. We ended up bending it with part of it almost touching the dashboard between the driver and front passenger. It took us 2 trips to get all the cushions back to the boat.

Your Original Request- Most of our cushions have at least one side that is angled to fit the curve of the hull. I would not feel comfortable trying to get those measurements for you... Could you borrow a larger vehicle? (I have good luck doing that because I wash it and return it with a full tank of gas) OR- rent a large Hertz/Enterprise vehicle.
