buying/ selling used sails

So the Mac25 I purchased came with about 10 sails. The previous owner never sailed the boat (first red flag ignored) and didn't know how to rig the boat. I started trying on the sails this week and so far have found 3 genoas and two mainsails that are far too tall for my boat! They look like racing sails for a different boat. I did manage to find one ratty jib that does fit but obviously that is insufficient. I haven't tried the others out because they appear to be mylar (spinnakers I presume) and a blooper.

My first question is where is the best place to sell these extra sails and how do I describe them since I have no idea what boat they belong on?

Secondly, where can I buy a main and and a genoa for a Mac 25 without spending $1000?

Thanks

UPDATE

After looking up the sail dimensions for a Mac25 I saw they are only slightly larger than my Hobie 16. Wouldn't you know it, I have an extra H16 mainsail that fit almost perfectly! Now I just need to track down a Genoa!

As to your first question, try Craigslist. You could describe the luff, foot and leech measurements, and overall condition.

Pictures of the sails, whether they're hank-on or not, whether they have slugs and reef points, would help, too.

Depending on their condition, you may be well on your way to affording brand new sails for your Mac.

I would like to buy a spinnaker if it would fit my Macgregor 25. I even have an older main that I would trade you for the spinnaker. Thanks, Jerry

How do I measure a spinnaker for these things? If it is the right size I would deff. be interested.

For an asymmetric spinnaker, the most critical measurement would be the luff, I think. And even that is "fudgeable". :D

If this measurement is slightly shorter than the distance from your tack attachment point to the halyard block, it will allow you to tension the luff for a wider point of sail.

Did you get a chance to measure the foot and luff? Thanks, Jerry

Yes the two I measured were:

32' tall down the center
16'6" across the bottom
30'10" along the side

30'8" tall down the center
17'3" across the bottom
32' along the side

Not sure if I measured them right, as I didn't know they could be asymmetrical.

One is yellow in great shape the other is red white and blue in fair shape. Do those measurements sound like they would work?

Yes they would work. I like the yellow one because my sailboat is yellow!! Let's work out a deal. I' have a main sail that I can send you. Thanks, Jerry

Time to get the scissors and sewing machine out!
There are videos on YouTube by sailright. Very helpful!
I picked up a Siren 17 a few weeks back and it didn't have sails. I have a old genoa from a HR25 that a guy gave me when I bought a spinnaker from him. (He actually gave me 3 head sails and 2 spinnakers... It was a surprise to me when he dropped them off. His boat was hit in a race and lost... so he didn't need any of them.)
I'm going to cut the genoa down and make a one for the Siren.

How close are the dimensions to a 26S? I plan to sell my original main (serviced by a sailmaker, new batten pockets, etc). I also have a jib with tape to fit a furler. A standard jib is "night and day" better than a genoa furled to 100%.

There are several websites with Mac dimensions, just don't have the URLs handy right now.
