Snapped this photo a couple of weeks ago. I try to identify the model of the boats I see when I can but I've never seen this logo before. The logo on the sail is a cursive "E" with the number 345 but it's not an Endeavor "E". The photo is not too clear. I was zoomed in. Thanks in advance for the help.

Realized after I posted that it couldn't be an "E" since the numbers would be backward if it was but didn't recognize it as a Beneteau. Thanks!

When we first started sailing, we were out with a friend and her boyfriend. He said, "There's a Beneteau 33, and a Catalina 25, and an Ericson 35!"

"Wow," I said, "How do know that?"

"I could either be lying or making it up, but eventually you'll figure it out, since the more you're out, the better you'll get at it."

He was right.

We were helped by Pat Royce's Sailing Illustrated, which is somewhat dated thse days, but is still a good place to start. Try Amazon.

I have the 6th Edition (ca 1974) of Royce's Sailing Illustrated and continue to refer to it a lot. It may be dated, but then so am I....

Ah, the infamous Beneteau B.

For almost a century Beneteau used the seahorse as a logo, until about 15 years ago some bright lawyer at Johnson Marine outboards thought it was too close to their horse logo and people might confuse them. Right. So Beneteau stopped using it in the USA. For awhile. Cooler heads must have prevailed, because the seahorse is back.

That's funny, mostly because Beneteau has never made a model called the 33. ;^)

And since Bombardier bought OMC in 2001, they retired Johnson in 2007, and only sell Evinrude outboards.

Brian,

I didn't know that was the reason; thanks for the info!

Yah, Jackdaw, according to the wikipedia, OMC went bust in 2000, Bombardier picked up in 2001, etc.

If you believe wikipedia… :D

I discovered this while doing some research into Elto, which led to Evinrude, to OMC, etc… Elto used to make this crazy outboard with a rudder on the back of it.
