Keel lead repair

I chunked out a piece of the keel including the lead when running aground. How can I adher lead to it or adher some substitute product to the keel to repair it.

West Systems epoxy, with lots of phenolic microballoons to make it like peanut butter.

Jackdaw +1. Use Teflon coated aluminum foil to help shape it. It will take a lot less sanding afterward.

That works ....or a piece of visqueen (the plastic sheeting used as a drop cloth for painting) also works well and does not stick at all to epoxy. I use the plastic sheeting all the time. Don't get the super thin stuff....



A place to get cheap lead is at an auto tire shop. They recycle the little pieces of lead used to balance your tire. Most places will sell you (or give you) and hand full if you tell them what you are up to. Everyone has a romantic spot in their soul for a sailboat.
