Outboard Bracket

I need to replace the outboard bracket on my 1983 O'Day 25.
Since there is a wedge between the transom and the bracket, I want to use the existing bolt holes. My first thought is there a bracket made that has adjustable bolt holes. Any suggestions?

If I were you, I'd get measurements of the existing holes, then call Garhauer to see if their mount will work. It will support a 4 stroke, and is much nicer than a direct replacement Garelick aluminum one, which is supposed to be only for 2 stroke.

I would give them a call and see what they say. The website http://garhauermarine.com has phone number listed at the bottom of the homepage. The outboard bracket is not listed on their online catalog. If you can't get anywhere directly with Garhauer, private message me, and I'll see if a guy I know can help out.

I looked at my wedge and Garelick today. There's no way a Garhauer would fit, as the Garhaueris wider than the Garelick mount. If I get really sick of my Garelick 2 stroke aluminum bracket, or if it breaks, I'll be drilling holes for access plates through the fuel locker, probably amidst a stream of profanity...

They don't have one, they sell direct. They're up in Oakland, CA this weekend for the boat show. Call them on Tuesday. Great guys. Bill, Mark or Guido.

I have an old OMC outboard bracket installed on mine and the mounting holes are positioned wider than the transom wedge. A piece of 1/4" steel plate that is wider than the wedge is bolted to the wedge and the OB bracket is bolted to the plate.

Here's the only photo I could find. It's a blowup of a long shot of the transom

Do you think the bracket would work without the wedge?
I assume the wedge is there for clearance purposes.

It all depends

It all depends on the construction of the mount. If the mount is built with enough angle adjustment, you could use it without a wedge. On my 192, the transom reverses a few degrees, and the Garelick mount does not accommodate that. It only accommodates angle at the motor end of the mount, for motor trim purposes. Hence the wedge. A newer design may accommodate a reverse transom, and not need a wedge.
