Someone did you a favor by pulling that carpet for you. Find my "what an awful job" thread to see why.
;) I did appreciate the fact that they removed the carpet but they didn't finish the job. I still have a top full of brown glue clumps.

I'm not sure whether to grind it down and repaint it (saw your posts on that) or put up some wooden strips as backing and cover them with a laminate of some sort.

Speaking of projects, I took this picture today. Pretty normal sight around here, but still amazes me that you can just lift something that big out of the water. Kinda makes all our little issues with moving our boats around seem silly.

and folks complain about painting the bottom. :)

Over the Christmas holiday I had enough time on my hands to coachwhip the wheel on Chameleon. Today I finished up the pedestal cover complete with the boat's crest and name to protect that fancy knot tying.

Now if it will only quit raining so I can do a thorough wash and wax... Oh well, at least its filling the lakes! :)

Nice work.

So I decided to complete / redo what I already did as far as the galley goes. I wanted a nice stainless steel round sink until I started pricing them. What I found was a high end, rubber coated stainless mixing bowl at BB&B. then I drilled out the center and installed a small sink drain. Turned out pretty good for $45 or so. Now to start on the wood.

I'm with you there brother.

I'm going to try a multi-tool judging by what Stinkbug went through with a grinder.

I still think I might clean out a path athwartships across the roof and epoxy in some 1.5"x .25" plywood strips. I would put hook velcro on them and get some flexible laminate and put loop velcro in the back of that.

I could take it down when I needed to but it would cover the mess that is my roof and hide any wiring or stanchion base bolts.

I have been getting the materials together to build a mold for my DB. Picked up some chopped strand mat today. Next is repair the old DB that has cracks along the back edge and is missing a few small chunks on the bottom lead edge. After that I'll clean it up and wax it so it's ready for copying.

Just curious what resin you plan to use? West System is so $$$$$$$.
Back when I used to make composite wings for my RC sailplanes I would get my supplies from a place in Hamilton (think it was even called Hamilton Fibreglass). They had bulk resin that was a decent price. Must have been a good product as the composite builders of full size aircraft used it. I need to get started on my centreboard repair soon...

FWIW the wire wheel did a pretty good job, and did it quite quickly. It was just very messy. I figure even with cleanup time it was still faster than scraping by hand by a long shot.

I plan to use polyester resin just like the boat is made of.
Here in London we have Heritage Marine. They have supplied me in bulk with everything I will need in the way of resin, hardener and gel coat. I picked up a bunch of woven mat last summer and probably have enough (3 rolls) to build a boat....
It's all different types. One even has one side Kevlar and the other fibreglass. It's super strong stuff! (I'm using it for the mold. I don't want a DB that will slice thought the boat if someone hits a rock...)

So today I added the strut mod to the pop up on the Mac. Works great and the parts cost was under $50. Much cheaper than the hernia operation I was going to have to get if I kept trying to lift that sucker.

I also cut some of the bolts on the inside to get the roof ready for either enclosure or painting and coated some new hatch and dropboard rails in epoxy. Hopefully, I'll have those on by Wednesday night.

Since winter has finally decided to take a hike until later this year, I was also able to pump out the 8" of water in the bilge (includes the 4-5" covering the floor). Sometime during this past winter, the hatch moved open about 4" and all that lovely snow we were getting piled up inside and turned into a skating rink. It finally melted enough today to pump most of it out. I also put a bar and hasp on the top dropboard and main hatch today so this doesn't happen again. One thing I am totally sure of is that the hull doesn't leak a drop ;).

Hindsight has also shown me that saving a few bucks by not covering it for the winter is false economy. I have a Reliable sewing machine (Sailrite knockoff) and plan to make a cover for her for this winter. Maybe if Sumner will let me, I'll hit Ruth up for some pointers. :D

Anyhow, that's how I spent the first dry, plus temperature weekend this year.

Hey Frank ware did you get your sewing machine from? I'm using an old Singer Stylist. It works...
I went shopping today for a new outboard for the newest member of the fleet. (Siren 17)
I picked up an old Elgin 2 hp that is older than me but looks to be in better shape... You guys can judge that one.
I also found a submarine. Someone just left it on the lawn in Port Burwell...

I started working on fixing my trailer. Pulled the whole boat/trailer combo into the shop yesterday and got it up on jack stands so I could tear the axle and springs out of it. As I was leaving to go to the bay last time I had one of the leaf springs break in half and had to limp back home to fix it. In the process I found that everything in the suspension was badly rusted and coming apart, and the axle was also bent and the bearings were shot.

I got new springs, bearings, spindles, steel for a new axle, u-bolts, shackles, pivot bolts, spring and shackle hangers, and all the old stuff is getting chopped off and replaced. Gonna move the axle back a couple inches for better tongue weight as well while I'm at it.

I got mine from www.reliablecorporation.com.

They're not cheap but the price is better than Sailrite by 3 or 4 hundred dollars, all the Sailrite parts and accessories fit it and they ship from Toronto.

As far as the sub goes, it's the Navy. The guys work for the government so they think they can park anywhere.

On a more serious note, have they opened it to the public yet? The last time I saw her, they only allowed us to look from the outside since they were still dry-docking her.

My turn! Pulled the trailer out yesterday and started the POR15 process. Wire wheel and ground the rust off, treated with Marine clean and metal prep. Ready for the finish if I can get it in the garage. That is another project entirely!

I like the look of those side bunks.

I get mine on the trailer "by guess and by golly". So far, I manage to hit the keel slot about one in four attempts. That's a lot of jumping in and out of the truck to check
