I would like to ask the group if anyone has used one of these reseal kits, and might give me some pointers on their experience doing this. I have already purchased the kit from Catalina direct, and it does come with some instructions. I would just like to know if someone has done this reseal, and has any advice for me before I start.
BTW I have a 1978 Catalina 30 the glass appears to be single pane tempered. When I have the glass out I also plan on using a tint on the inside.
Here's the link to the product from Catalina direct.

Thank you in advance

This is a tedious job that shouldn't be rushed. You must clean every surface that you intend to reseal to insure a watertight seal. That means ALL of the silicone must be removed from the glass, aluminum channels, and outside deck area where window channel meets the cabin. Keep track of where and how all of the channels and glass go so they all go back the way they were installed. I used Catalina directs' sealer for the glass but used mainsails butyl tape to seal the window channels to the cabin sides and I'm glad I did, much easier to install! One trick to get the original windows out is to use a hairdryer around the aluminum channel and slowly pry them off. Take your time, clean window glass and channels spotless(and cabin sides) and you will have no leaks!

That’s exactly what I was looking for, the heat gun was something I had not thought of but a very good idea thanks again. And you hit on the question that I was going to ask next about the butyl tape. If you get a chance could you tell me how thick the butyl tape was? The reason I ask is; the butyl tape I have is 1/8 of an inch thick. And I know there are some out there that 1/16 of an inch thick. I plan on using Restoro® to clean the glass, if you have not heard of this product Google it on YouTube it is pretty fantastic stuff.

I may not check in for a couple days I’m going to the boat for the weekend. Thanks again for your replies.

I haven't used this product but have had limited success with similar products.I basically had to physically remove the silicone with putty knife and 3m green pad then wipe down with acetone or similar product to insure pristine surface for sealer to adhere. Also seal up the gap between inner liner and outer cabin top so if you have leaks from fittings on cabin top they won't run down and exit by the window channel inside cabin. You can see the gap when you remove the window channel and glass. The butyl tape I used was 1/16 thick, if you search this site it will show you dimensions.Good luck!

The product I was referring to will be used to clean the glass itself not the silicone. Thank you for your reply and I'll keep you posted on how things go.
