Same happen on our boat, came apart and got into the belt and knocked the belt off. I inspect the engine compartment before every crank up. Stuff was a little loose but not falling down. Happen while at dock, so not that bad. Cleaned everything off, went to home depot .They have 12in wide 6ft long silver insulation pad that is a peel off on one side and exposed silver on other, doubled it and reinstall wood frame. Worked great,l ooks good.$36.00 total. Good luck
I bought insulating panels from Sailors Solutions. They are supposed to be great at noise-dampening. I noticed some improvement but it was not a radical difference. I will say that they adhesive they used on the panels was incredible - you definitely only want to apply them once.
I am using "Soundown" barrier composite insulation which is good for reducing engine noise. It is a bit pricy as compared to big box store insulation. More effective too as it was designed to reduce the frequencies from mechanical equipment like those produced by diesel engines. (or something to that effect)

It comes in large sheets which I prefer it to the 12"x12" squares from Sailors Solutions because of less seams. Every joint is an escape route for noise which reduces the overall performance of the application.

This was discussed very recently and Stu and others pointed out that there is considerable difference between sound damping and insulation. While the latter might also dampen sound a little, you can get rolls of the foil faced stuff designed for engine compartment at a good price from J.C. Whitney. Sound dampening is, as Ted points out, much more expensive.
Soundproofing engine
If you don't want noise to escape from the engine compartment, you will want to use a sound dampening product. If you don't want heat to escape, use insulation. Both of these products will do both but each is specifically engineered to perform a particular task better than the other. Your selection will depend on what your goal is. Both products can look similar and have silver lined padding. A dampening product will have a dense layer of material in addition to the foam. It is usually a heavier product per square foot. Some dampening products use a lead sheet because it is such a good dampening material.
