In July of last year, I had an occasion to be running along the trail skirting a harbor (Lat 32.726742, Long -117.175278) in San Diego, CA. I passed this old wooden sailboat that caught my eye and brought my run to a screeching halt. Out came the camera and I spent a bit of time admiring the sleek lines of this beauty from this and that angle. Of all the boats I passed that day, this is the only one that remains in memory. I'd love to know more about this boat if anyone on this forum can identify it for me. I've attached an image of it to this post - hope that worked as this is my first post on this forum. Thanks.

It's probably a Kettenburg, originally built in San Diego. Beautiful boats. Here's a 40':

On your next visit to the marina (running, walking, biking, or driving) say hello to any marina personnel or warf rats you feel comfortable to approach. Many people will love to talk about boats and share their knowledge. Surely someone will know of the boat. You might want to mention that the sailcover is not secured around the forward side of the mast. (That would show some level of concern for the boat's safety.)
If you are a "book person" check out Sailboat Classes of North America for a good view of some older boats and a short description of the different class histories. Good reading even if you don't find the one for which you are looking.
By the way.....Good eye, that is a pleasing boat to look at. Owning a wooden boat, on the other hand, is more work than owning a fiberglass one.

Since he's in Illinois and is asking about a boat in San Diego I'm guessing he isn't just gonna be visiting the area frequently. Also I'm pretty sure I know where that boat is, and it's basically just a mooring field near the airport, with no real marina or anything nearby. Very pretty boat though. I'll have to take a sail over there this weekend and see if it's where I think it is.

HA! I was right. That's exactly where I was thinking. Will have to take a pass by there tomorrow if I have time.
Thay have tides in San Diego. Boats will swing around all over the place as the current changes.
If you look at the location on Google Maps you'll see that the row of boats closest to shore has a line going to the mooring, and lines going to shore, holding the boats in position.
That said, I usually anchor on the other side of the bay and when the winds die down at night it's not uncommon for all the boats in the anchorage to be facing different directions.
