Good morning. Congratulate me. I just put a offer down and got it accepted on Hull 290 in Kemah. Awaiting survey, and whatnot. Previous owner did not have, or scarfed the anchor. Any thoughts on best anchor for this 37? I previously owned a Tayana 42. I'm conservative on anchoring, so I'm a bigger the better guy.

I am very happy with my Rocna 25 kg (55 lbs). Fits nice on a wind line anchor roller, self launches, and of course holds well. Around here CQR s are dirt cheap as people are moving rapidly to new style anchors spade, mantus rockna etc.

Thank you

Bill,

How much, what combo of rode are you running? I appreciate your time. I can be a cheap SOB, but think a few things (like anchors) you just spend the money on.

I'll take one of those "cheap" CQR's anytime. On Midnight Sun I use a #25 CQR with 15' of 5/16" chain for a lunch hook, and a #35 CQR with 25' of chain for a hurricane hook. Never had a problem except for Charleston, SC where I think you would drag attached to a locomotive.

I have 135 feet of 3/8 ht chain. Windlass is so old that I could not get a BBB wheel so I have expensive underweight chain. Blaise races, I cruise, months at a time when I can. Here in sw Florida and the keys, anchorages are shallow enuff that I rarely exceed 90 feet of chain out. When I had a CQR it was a 45 # . Same chain. Plowed in soft mud. After I had to re anchor 3 times, I started looking at new generation stuff, got a deal on a Rocna.

Many thanks

Gentlemen, you have been very helpful. Thanks for the help. I will probably be pestering you again as problems arise. It will be good to get back on the water again.

Depending on where your likely to be sailing should dictate the type of anchore you should be running. There's really nothing that holds well in the low country SC through Georgia it's mud and gives easily.
My favorite for the Bahamas is a Delta 35-45 lbs and I run all chain 5/16 HT 250' feet with a rope bitter end just in case I've got to cut it away. But if I do find myself in that situation then I haven't done my homework when it comes to weather.
