If you live in South Carolina and wanted to do this it was a fun trip. I would like to do this trip again, but this time from the West side of the Santee or maybe even from the Wateree River at the 378 highway boat ramp. Motor down the Wateree River to the Congaree and on to Santee, then Sail across Lake Santee and Moultrie. Lower the mast before entering the lock, then motor down the Santee Cooper till the last bridge and sail into Charleston Harbor. I did this trip in 2000.

Pretty neat video! We locked thru on a trip up the Mississippi River years ago with our C-22. Neat experience! Looking forward to more adventures after I retire. Thanks for sharing!

I like how the dgreen family just motored if it worked better. It was about being together and finding new things to see and do.

I'd rather sail and in this case I did not want to wait for the other bridges to open. That is one of the nice things about a sailboat. If you need to motor you still use a lot less fuel than power boats. I use even less now that I have the Tohatsu 6 Sailpro. I have no problem motoring when necessary. I also motored in Lake Jocassee. I forgot my mast support extension needed to set up the mast. Turns out there was no wind anyway, so we went out with it down and had a great time anyway. Like you stated so well. Enjoy being with family and friends in spite of things not going as you envisioned them. I've discovered in most cases things don't go as you planned. Enjoy it anyway. Thanks for the comment.

Don't wait too long. I still have a few years till I retire also. I take advantage of 3 day weekends. I also am lucky and get about 3 weeks vacation a year. I would love a month of cruising the keys on both sides. I'm a Don too. Thanks for the kind words.

I'm down to my last year before retirement. We're already making plans for 2015 cruises. The top of the list is the annual C-22 North Gulf Cruise. But while we're down there would love to trailer down to the Key's. I'm with you, I'm never to proud to start the motor occasionally. But it's sure nice when we're able to shut it down and pull it up out of the water.
