Well after having read many of the posts and answers on this forum and others. I just bought both the sail trim charts and user's guide fro SBO. I must admit I'm quite interested to learn just how badly I've been trimming my boat, LOL!! I've already picked up a bunch of tips that I can't wait to test out.
Finally broke down and ordered!!

I got mine for Christmas... I have been reading a little at a time, and it is full of sail trim knowledge and hints.... I am looking forward to putting some of what I learned to good use when the lake thaws out and we can start sailing again...
I like the handy waterproof charts I can keep in the cockpit to help when sailing...

cal_28sailor/crackaloon: Thank you for buying my products -- you won't be sorry because when you digest all the material and get a chance to put it into practice (once your weather clears up!!) you'll have a solid sail trim foundation to build on. Dennis Connor won't be calling you for sail trim advise but you'll know more about the basics of sail trim than 70% of the sailors worldwide. I can only move sailors to the intermediate catagory. That's my goal and all I ever wanted to do as I hate to see sailors going through what I went through to learn how to sail a silly sailboat. To move to the next level it takes guys like RichH, Joe from San Diego, Stu J, Scott and a few others to help you get there but unless you have a solid understanding of the basics of sail trim you won't know what they're talking about.
The most important chapter is obviously the first chapter. Unless you have a complete understanding of the material contained therein, sail trim will never make any sense.
The Chart tells you WHAT to do and the book tells you WHY you're making a particular sail trim adjustment. The WHY of sail trim is EVERYTHING -- otherwise you're just guessing.

lots of confusion
I've been reading many of the posts in the forum and I have to admit that I don't understand many of the points made by guys like RichH, Joe from San Diego, Stu J, Scott. Hope the book and charts will help to clear things up.Those guys are obviously well versed in all of the elements that go into Sail Trim. A common question I receive from newbie sailors is " I want to learn the traveler or the use of the fairleads?" or it could pertain to any of the 8 primary sail trim controls for the mainsail or the 6 for the jib. That's a good question but unfortunately it's the wrong one. When I ask them what the traveler, fairleads or outhaul etc is adjusting most times they can't tell me. So, in other words, the correct question would be "what is the sail trim control actually adjusting?". Additionally, some of the sail trim controls adjust a couple of things and the fairleads adjust EVERYTHING on the jib.

I got Don's guide a few years ago. This prompted us to install a Garhauer traveller for the Merry Bee, since we had an 'A' frame mainsheet when we purchased her. Simply amazed at what a difference this has made! Now we have much more control over sail trim.:dance:
