I have a 1998 Hunter 376. The boat doesn't have an instrument that shows engine temperature or Oil Pressure. I would like to add these instrument has anyone done this? If yes I would love to know how, advice, pictures, etc.
Thanks

Have done this with the original engine on the boat. Installed a temperature gauge using an automotive mechanical gauge. The installation was fairly easy. Find a water fitting on the engine close to the top of the engine where the temperature is the hottest. Figure out where you will put the gauge and dash cut-out. Then run the temperature probe to the engine. If you are interested in a marine gauge I would recommend checking Don's Savage in St. Petersburg/Clearwater. They have a lot of SS gauges that may work for you.

Years ago I purchased a SS temperature gauge from Don's, but I have yet to install it on the new Yanmar engine that is now in the boat. Guess I will put that on the New Year's to do list :)

Search

Do a search in this forum for more info on sailors who have done what you want and have seen most put a tee with temp sender in water hose close to water pump or thermostat.
But be careful with a tee for oil pressure as I did that and year later it cracked and almost blew up my motor.

Thanks I did a search before the post and came up with nothing. I need to go online and see what I can find also. Just wanted to see if anyone had done this already.

Thanks

Really all you need to do is decide where you what to mount the gauges. Then go to Defender etc and pick a matched sender and gauge and run the run wires etc.

Don't know if a a sensing point is readily available on your engine but I had to install a T in the the engine water line to the domestic hot water heater. Screwed the temp. sensor into the T which is shown just above the right hand ball valve. The green wire coming off the brass T fitting is a ground lead for the sensor.

Oil pressure sensing point was already on the engine.
