HIN Location & CG Marking 1990 35.5

Can anyone tell me where I will find the HIN on my boat as well as does anyone have good examples of how/where they marked their Coast Guard numbers on their boat? Looking for a good idea. Looks like the previous owners (4) never marked it and it looks like I need to be sure its marked based on the latest brew-haha going on down in Mexico....

I would prefer to put a wood panel with the numbers engraved but I am not so sure that meets the letter of the law. Anybody have solid information/experience on this?

The hull number from the factory is on starboard stern corner on my boat.
I put the documentation numbers on the wall of the cockpit locker, up relatively high where it can be seen when the locker is open. The numbers were glued to fiberglass locker, then glassed over to make them permanent in compliance with the instructions.

Almost the same on our Nor'Sea. Hull number aft Stbd side. Documentation number is in the port seat locker on the side of the hull. Plastic (I think) then glassed over so no tampering can be done.

Steve: A friend of mine has a H'37 (late 80's model) and I believe that the HIN was not ever emblazoned on the boat.

While it is supposed to be on the rear starboard corner his is no where to be found.

I bought the correct size documentation numbers at local hardware.
Stuck them to the inside of the hull behind the settee cushions.
Then painted over it with West Epoxy.

Makes it permanently affixed to the hull as the regulations require.

Yeah, I got nothing on my aft area of the boat. I have an excellent hi res pic of the boat and its just not there where it should be. Usually it is in two places, one inside the hull, generally glassed into the stbd aft inside, and on the outside Std aft. Just thought anyone with a 1990 would know.

I thought maybe it was under one of the aft storage bin lids that I didn't see. I will have to find it. Sure appreciate the ideas on the CG #, I like the idea of the cockpit locker. I just don't want to deface the interior for this ID thing.

Anyone else got ideas?

it is only about 1/4" tall and 1.5" long. If has to be on a part of the boat that cannot be removed.

We just had a stencil made for the CG#. Stuck it on under the galley sink and hit it with a couple of coats of paint. Removed the stencil and we where done.

If you do not have those number on the hull you may want to consider having a SS tag made and rivet it on the hull.

This would be better than not having anything available.

On our H35 we put doc number on fwd bulkhead inside lazarette. Painted it on, using penciled in stencil as a guide.

Did you ever find your HIN? If so, I'd like to know where. I have not yet found it on my 1989 H30.

Yes, I did. It is on the Stbd side on the outside of the hull at the very aft end.

Below the Starboard cleat above the solid stripe on the top side, the HID is embossed on my 1989 H30. Hard to see unless you are really looking for it.

I used an industrial sharpie and put the USCG number in the bilge. 20 seconds, meets the law requirements.
