I close on December 18th on my 40.5 and was able to negotiate a good deal so I believe will see once I get through everything. For the holding tank has anyone use plastic pipe instead of hose runs to the head, is there any issue with that ? I hear hose the smell can still come threw.

You can use plastic pipe for sharp turns (a good idea actually) but it's not recommended for the entire run. Hose gives the system the ability to flex and shift as the boat moves. The best built boats in the world use hose. For good reason.

not if you use trident 101 or 102.... not shields..... and it will be easy to run compaired to plastic pipe and flexiable and make sure you double clamp every thing .........

There is no straight run worth considering PVC pipe on the 40.5. Use Trident 101 as was suggested. That's what it had in it and mine had 20 years with no permiation. On the other hand, if you still have an aluminum holding tank, you probably need to replace it. You can search for holding tanks 40.5 in the forums. Lots of info. Triple M Plastics make custom holding tanks for the 40.5. Have fun!

I replaced my holding tank vent lines with 3/4" pvc pipe. The rigid pvc pipe not only stops odor but eliminates the possibility of liquid being trapped in the pipe, which can happen in a flexible hose if there is a sag in the hose. I wouldn't use pvc for the main intake and discharge pipes, unless I had an extra long run and then had a few feet of flexible hose on each end. Even then the possibility of leaks at the hose-pipe connections should be considered.

I have been pondering the same. Alan did his with pvc some years ago and swears by it.

I replaced all plumbing with 1.5" pipe , both on my current boat as well as the previous boat and have had no issues (15+ years). Both boats had 1' pieces of hose at each end of the pipes as flexible connectors.

Sure the pipe is a pain to install but I like it very much as it will never permeate.

Ditto Matt's comments. Over the past 15 years I completely replaced the flex hose with PVC except for the short run out of the head and the final turn into the tank. I had previously had the $$/foot "non-permeable" hoses installed but they all eventually permeate. Never any odor problems with the PVC.

My camping trailer has plastic PVC and gets shaken around. I will try the PVC as it rated to 250psi and see how that goes. I am actually going to take to pump out station today. The first outing exciting for me and not anyone else. Some times its the small things in life that give the most satisfaction.
