1976 formosa 41 yankee clipper santa barbara. ca.(not there)
the hull is wrong shape for any of the cal designers. it is also wrong for venture,i see on another perusal, and it is wrong for catalina.l it is also not a regular hank mckune built boat either..he made some many different smaller boats in 1950s-1991
his hull molds were used for early catalinas and some coronados.
the sheer is a hank mckune type sheer,so i am having difficulty placing it, as he did not use poptops for his cabin houses.
had there been no poptop i would think it is a thoroughbred, but i thought those were 25-27 ft.
and it has wrong line of house for victory--victory didnt have a coachhouse of import. his next boat was thoroughbred then champion, and these are different than this boat, despite the proud sheer....so familiar but just out of reach, name-wise.
is not lapworth
is not jensen
is not wenk design.
is not morgan, but it could be as he also used hank mckune molds with a different coach house and deck, so dont rule out morgan
if it is an early frank butler catalina, then it was designed by hank mckune, as that is his sheer. hank helped frank begin his business in boat building, so it could easily be an early catalina with a hull from a hank mckune mold, so easily made difficult for those knowing the shapes of each hull.
the hin would be a biiiig help.
that hull shape screams hank mckune.....but the topsides are so different from his work.

I once rebuilt a SC 22 for someone. The chain plates went through the deck and were bolted to a bulkhead, which had rotted and allowed the chain plates to pull through the deck, and of course, the mast felll down.

Otherwise everything else says SC22- ports, pop top, rudder arrangement.

Couldn't the shroud position have been changed?
My boat had the arrangement that you (TSBB) describe and it looks like after discovering water damage to the bulkhead, a PO shifted to heavier chain plates mounted to the hull (about 3" outboard from the original position).
The shrouds aren't parallel to the mast (as I have read is critical here on SBO) but the mast hasn't fallen down AND I've noticed a lot of boat with the same "problem".

Well I guess we will never know....
Buddy sold it to someone else! ....... ....!
Oh well, there will be other trailer sailors to build my fleet.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Yes, definitely. And I have done that on a few. No more deck leaks. I've seen MANY rotted bulkheads from leaking chain plates. The do need rebedding once in a while, because they tend to flex a bit.

Catalina Catalina 22 Fort Madison, IA
I thought South Coast right away too but the chain plates say no. It's not a clipper marine
But is it possible that it's a South Coast that someone either repaired or strengthened by putting new chain plates on the side? I've seen a Catalina 22 repaired like this. Instead of replacing the bulkheads that were water damaged they moved the chainplates. Not a bad idea

Old ventures were built like this and that looks a lot like a venture especially the sheer and the cockpit.
What's the swing keep setup like?
Is there a plastic tube kind of arrangement for the winch cable?
