my 1981 33 has Aqua Signal bow and stern lights, but I can't decipher the model numbers; were these "standard issue" on the Cherubini Hunters? if so, what are the model numbers? I plan to replace the bulbs with LEDs. . . also, the steaming light on my mast is a Perko with what appears to be a 10 watt festoon bulb; would it make sense to replace the bulb with an LED, or replace the whole fixture? are steaming lights subject to the 2 nautical mile rule? last, but not least, I plan to replace the masthead light - I saw one made by Sea Dog on sale for $32, it states it complies with USCG regulations, anyone see problems with this?

I don't think mine are original... I will check them tomorrow and let you know what make they are... Never been up my mast; someday hope to install LED up top.

I obviously have not seen your lights, but please check the lenses for 'crazing' or fogging. If these exist you will lose distance visibility for other boats.

The fixtures have not been made for over a decade, but the bulbs are available.
They are a single contact/offset retaining pins. I don't have a part number, as I changed to new Aqua Signal fixtures 10 years ago.

You said your steaming light had a "festoon" bulb... I thought that was a LED light. Have you looked at it up close? I tried to find a replacement fixture a few years ago, one that would fit the curved fixture mount on the mast. No luck, but I still would like to change it, preferably with something that doesn't require drilling a number of new holes in the mast for a new fixture mounting. If you do change please let me and the group know what you bought.

Don't know the Sea Dog unit, I installed an Aqua Signal light combo with sailing nav and anchor lights on the mast top.

Good Hunting.

I asked this question about a year ago. The model number was in that post. Just do a search for my name.

Mojo, had to go to marine store and while there I asked about the bulb. They did not have the single pole, but did have a dual pole/offset pin bulb. The industry identifier is "1157". That may be a lead to the single pole number and availability if you decide to replace your old ones.

No help here... One had a "CE" on it and I was not able to see a brand name on the other.

Mojo, Found the single pole for the nav/steam/mast head light bulbs. It looks like a "1156" with (maybe) equal (not offset) pins. Look at your fixture and report back as to pin placement and I'll help you find them.

we must have different fixtures. . . after doing a little browsing online outlets, and Aqua Signal, I'm pretty sure I have their series 41 bow and stern lights, i think they are original (Aqua Signal has been making them since the 70's, and still does); these have a BAY15D base with LED equivalents available. . . that's a great tip about the lenses! thanks!

yes, it's 1 1/4" long and 3/8" in diameter, kinda looks like a fuse with pointed ends - a festoon bulb. . . the fixture is a Perko. . .

thanks for all the feedback. . .

An 1157 bulb has two elements and is used on trailer tail lights.
Just an FYI, if you buy an LED to replace the original (festoon) bulb, may I suggest you get a red LED for the port light and a green for the starboard light (unless you have a combination single light with single bulb, of course) as they are much more effectively seen by the "other guy".

Thanks Bill, the steaming light is the only fixture with a festoon bulb. . .
