The boat is an 87 O'Day. The deck filler was manufactured by Wright Crittenden, and the threads seem to be a standard 1 1/2" IP... and I booted the cap overboard. I asked Rudy at D & R Marine who makes a replacement, but he did not know... Anybody have an idea?

Defender, West, Hamilton all have several brands of deck filler plates with caps. MOST 1.5" diameter. Might have to buy the whole piece to get a cap. Prices @ $35.00.

Were you in your slip? How about a big magnet on a string? I keep one on board and has come in handy several times.

If your boat is an 1987 model, are the caps colored? For many years, West Marine has sold the color coded caps. I would call their customer service reps and see who made them and give them a call...Pat

hello

sorry to hear about your deck filler cap going overboard.... I too lost one, and found just the cap replacement on the internet on ebay... all kinds, metal labeled, plastic ones that float, and colored ones for each type of liquid needs... some as cheap as $5 per cap...

check it out...

sincerely
Jess

If I recall correctly these are a custom cap and no longer in production. I found a couple spares at a Marina on the mystic river in Ct. once many years ago. No idea if they still have them but worth a try, Mystic River Marina I think was the name. You might be better off to replace the whole fill fitting but the new ones are a different size so you might need to do some surgery on the boat to make it fit.

I think you mean "WILCOX-Crittenden", and I'd try a local (or not so local? try Googling marine consignment) Marine Consignment/used parts store. Even if you had to buy the whole fitting (cap and deck fitting) it may be less $$ than just a cap new.

Try:
Newport (RI) Nautical
Marine Consignment Wickford (RI), Fall River (MA), Mystic (CT)
Minney's (Southern CA?)
And as others have said: eBay or Craig's List.

OH, and make sure the replacement has a retainer chain!

ODay Sailor - did you ever find a replacement for your fuel filler cap?

While I still have mine, I'd like to replace it as the plasic part used to open it is broken and hard to make work, and O-ring is letting water get into tank.

I checked at WM today and they have several replacements - guess I need to bring in old cap for picking same size. All appear to be black plastic. One says Waste (don't need that), one says Gas (don't need that) and last one doesn't have any marking on it at all. Did not see one that said 'Diesel'. Also found several O-rings that might help with my problem of water getting in fuel tank...
