I am sure many of you have done what we did this evening on your own boat. After a foggy morning the sun broke out and I decided to enjoy my H27 in a slightly different way. We've had many boats, a number of large cruising boats and we recently (five years ago) downsized to a H27 as a day sailor mostly and occasional overnighter for me. And I've used my boat at the docks during the winter as a man cave, study and office.
But tonight it was different. We went to our best Italian restaurant (Giuseppe's) and asked if we could get two Chicken Piccata dinners and a caesar salad to go. It was doable. Fifteen minutes later we had our meal and then headed for the boat. The sun was down and there was a fall chill to the air. We went aboard out little boat, turn on the lights and the furnace and had to look for the silverware. I've kept the boat simple and so there was one wine glass for my wife; I used a Hunter cup. Not classy but it worked. I had paper plates but still needed serving spoons--I think about that for the future.
After getting our needs out of the settee lockers, we raised the one side of the table and set ourselves up for dinner. I should have plugged in my iPod but forgot. The white wine from the San Juan Island winery tasted excellent even in the cup. Giuseppes make a great caesar and the chicken piccata was suburb, excellent....(I've had too much wine I think).
When we cleaned up, did the silverware and the glass and cup, we also bagged the empty boxes and paper towels (napkins) for garbage and as we did all this we looked out from our cozy cabin to see heavy fog rolling into the marina and city. Almost movie like with the docks lights barely visible and masts disappearing up in the misty fog. I turned off the cabin lights and we stood there for awhile just enjoying the sight. Finally I closed down the electrical board and we left locking up our little ship. What a pleasant evening on our boat although I'm a bit peeved with myself forgetting the music....some Beegie Adair or Bill Evans would have been nice.
I'll have to try this again with another goodrestaurant--a good meal, one that I couldn't do on my boat with the limited stove and equipment...for heaven's sake it is a small boat not Sardi's but it was worth it and the fog made it adventuresome.
I'm in love with my wife....and my boat. It was a pleasant evening. Thank you for letting me share it with you.
