Two immutable facts that I've learned this week;

1. People (in general) are rude.

2. If you make a sailboat, chances are you'll be selected as the Sail Magazine Boat of the Year.

Seriously though, we did meet a lot of fine folks while walking the docks in Annapolis. One couple in particular we met while aboard a Jeanneau, was from Pittsburgh and, who, when they found out where we were visiting from (remember, we're from St. Louis), let us know that they were rooting for the Cardinals to whoop LA!

The worst part about the show was, of course, the rude people, but, I can only imagine that if it hadn't rained as much as it did things would have been far worse!

That said, I think we're done with boat shows!

Rude People

Hmmm, There were a few self absorbed people at the show, but honestly for DC people they were from what I saw on the best behavior. Actually one of the most pleasant shows I have been to. At least this year with the rain the vendors had mercy on us and did not make us take our shoes off.

I have been in the show three days straight and seen a great crowd. No complaints at all...

I concur w/ the positive comments. I worked the Hunter booth during the Thur. monsoon. Everyone seemed to pull together. I don't know what show Capt. Williams was at. EVERY boat I tried to enter wanted shoes off, a couple wanted bare feet!!!. Needless to say, my socks got wet , to add to the misery. Thur is always the best day 'cuz of less crowds & easier parking. Sorry about the weather....wait till next year!! " Fair Winds...." " Murph "

If you ever want to know when it's gonna rain in Annapolis, pick the Boat Show weekend. Yet most people just broke out their foulies and kept on going....

Isn't it obvious?

I think next year they should move the Annapolis Boat Show to San Diego. Weather is ALWAYS perfect.

Smaller show this year

We have been to the Annapolis show every year for the past 7 or 8 years and had perfect weather until his year. This show was definitely smaller than the past two years-not as many boats or vendors as the past two years. The weather super sucked both Thursday and Friday, but we made the most of it and had a great time.

I know how the show can be in the rain did it last year all be it not like this year

If you traveled all the way from windy rough Lake Caryle (visited many times when they first built the dam as a kid} and could not have a good time then perhaps you overlooked the many many things there
One of the best was my first time and we got to meet several floks at the academy the best of the best was truly inspirational
The drive over the big bridge and Harris Crab House
Deals at all the venders

Any interesting new sailboats in the size 26-31ft? With shallow draft? I would appreciate photos as well.

Regarding the Sail Best Boats. You do see a LOT of those banners on boats. But take a closer look and you will see many of the banners dated from years past. The builder keeps the banner and puts it back up every year. Also, every NOMINEE gets a banner. Doesn't mean they won boat of the year. Last, there are 6 categories, you wouldn't want to compare a 22' trailer sailor to a 50' cat.
So yes, there were a lot of Sail mag banners.

Disclosure, I do some freelance work for Sail magazine.

I wouldn't say I've ever found the crowd at the show rude. I think people tend to get wrapped up in all there is to see and overly focused on what they're there for. The end result is they sometimes get a little oblivious to those around them. If you live in tourist town you sort of get used to it.

Wife and I went today, a great time, not burning up hot like our last visit. Had our first (and probably last) Painkiller. Maybe a little umbrella would have helped!! I think I`ll stick to Seagrams (Only special occasions, of course). Climbed in a new Precision 21...made us glad we have our 23. I`m probably wrong, but it seems like the same 3 Rhodes 22 boats show up every time.Arrived about an hour early, walked city Dock Area, easy parking in Garage 2 blocks up the hill, had a great time.

Defender is having their annual Boat Show Specials" online and in store.
I picked up a new water heater with a $100.00 savings.

Disclosure: I have no relationship with Defender other than sending my monthly Social security check to them.

The visitors I talked with were great, but a couple of the vendors obviously thought I wasn't the right caliber and were more than a bit stand offish and yes a bit rude. That's OK, I took my business elsewhere. I am very easy to get a long with. (Don't ask my wife!)

Spent a bit more than I planned but that's normal. I learned a lot. In spite of the weather, we enjoyed ourselves but didn't go through the hassle of getting on the boats in the rain.

I tried to get to the meet up but the wife had me go to a seminar. Better luck next year.
