Reconditioning Perko raw water strainer

I've bought the kit to restore the engine raw water strainer. It consists of three round cork gaskets. Should I use gasket sealer to seat the gaskets on the top and bottom plates? It was not previously sealed to the clear plastic body, so I assume I don't need to seal that.

you should be fine with out sealer assuming you have the type that has the draw bolts to hold it together a pic would be nice so we will know what we are talking about ...

just as i thought you dont need sealer on that ...but make sure you clean the seat in the bronze and set the gaskets evenly in the seats and you should be good to go...oh and try to tighten the draw bolts with as close to equal pressure as you can.....

I don't think I would. Cork seals very well "uncorrupted", and may prove aggravating to service again.
