Fram diesel fuel filter

Does anyone know how to take this Fram diesel fuel filter apart to replace the element?
I have already removed the bottom nut (drain?) and long top bolt and I still cannot get this filter apart...I am puzzled

It is probabaly stuck ,try twisting the glass bulb as you pull it down if it hasn't been changed in a while it is frozen in place, do not tap on it as it will break, a little hot water may help also

All you need is a filter wrench/strap wrench

Take out long top bolt and slight tap it is stuck

Not to be an as*, but throw it away and replace it with a Racor. Racor 500's allow you to remove the filter from the top, meaning no spilled fuel and they are by far the best filter, design wise, on the market today. You can see sediment and water in the bowl below the element and there is a drain if it fills with water. Elements are readily available in 3 filtration sizes; 5, 10 & 20 microns.

Ditto. it's stuck. And outdated. And someone has put hose clamps on it, and it has 'Push-Loc' fittings. That'll do more to CUT the hose than seal it.

As other have posted the gaskets probably have become embrittled and are stuck - give it a whack. These are common flat gaskets typically made of BUNA rubber - replacements are easily found on the internet; do replace the gaskets.

Dont worry about the efficacy of such a filter as described by another poster as all these fuel filters by various manufacturers use/buy such technical filter media/material from essentially ONE world (monopoly) supplier. The important thing to remember is that such filters are made from 'resinated' cellulose; when in contact with water (all fuel oil eventually winds up with water in it) will only safely last for about a year - the water will begin to 'digest' the cellulose thus weakening it. As a minimum, change YEARLY !!!!!

Thanks all of you for your sincere advice.
What I have learned today;
- black metal bottom fell off on its own overnight...lol
- yes, it was stuck since last filter change was probably over 10 yrs ago (boat is new to me)
- bottom of bowl had 1/4" of "wet tar" residue
I cleaned bowl, replaced element and 3 rubber washers and reinstalled after pre-filling bowl with fuel...good-to-go!
