no word yet from boat us!!!!! equipment was taken out and sent to raymarine for evaluation. report came back all equipment damaged due to most likely lightning strike!!!. damage happened in may!

now here is the ironic part. i just received a notice from boat us about a request me made on a sail on aug 18. we were coming back in to harbor and couldnt start batteries. turns out damage to battery charger damaged my battery bank. we were dousing sails coming into harbor hit the start and no joy. called boat us and while calling a boat us boat came about a 9 iron away from us. hailed on radio but no response. the operator answered the phone and told us they were too busy, she would contact the police. the police call me, very nice but told us they were too busy. so i had call some harbor friends and they came out with a jump box, started right up.

now comes this letter from boat us. they say they paid an invoice to great lakes towing for a tow they gave me on the day in question. i called and talked to person and he gave me the details, they got to your boat at x and towed you in and had you tied to your dock at x.

i said listen, i was ignored by your tow boat, and since i cant get any benefit from your membership this group shouldnt get any either!!! its a fraudulent invoice!

the manager was to call me the next day to discuss (yesterday) but no call.

boat us 2
me 0

i have learned to sail again with out all the joys of chartplotter, autopilot, depth, wind, knotmeter, thank GOD that the fridge still works and i did change the stereo and lights.

WOW, you've had all the luck of an outhouse rat.
I'm glad it's not keeping you on shore at least.

tell them you have contacted a lawyer, sounds like you have documented everything, and you have dock mates that can corroborate, if it comes down to it then sue them, no matter what the bill is, this is about fraud and harassment as well as damages due to non-response of an assistance contract you purchased membership in.

I don't recall your original post, but something sounds a tad weird to me. It would seem that the insurance company should have sent an adjuster TO YOUR boat, rather than having you take the equipment off the boat and send it somewhere. Am I missing something here?

Do you have tow boat us coverage? They send out notices of this sort of stuff but its not a bill. If you dont have coverage then it is a bill.
Either way it soinds like the tow boat is committing fraud and boat us needs to deal with this. Maybe contact the local prosecutor if you have solid evidence which it sounds like.

I just completed a lightening claim with bost us insur. First thing they did was contact a surveyor to inspect. They paid for a haul out so the surveyor could inspect everything. Excellent responses from boat us. Check came asap.

stu, the first adjuster never came on the boat, sat in the parking lot. part of the reason for the long delay. see previous thread with same title.

when did it happen?

they did send out an adjuster, sat in car and never came to boat. reason for long delay. after second adjuster came, was instructed to remove equipment and sent to raymarine for testing.

i am a member of boat us towing, the reason that it pissed me off is that they charged the mothership with out doing the work. it wasnt a bill, just notice of bill paid.

Then it sounds like they are ripping off the insurance company. Please let BoatUS know that if you haven't already. Or maybe I misunderstood.

I'd give the tow company a call and explain that BoatUS seems to have screwed up and assigned the tow to the wrong boat. I'd give them a day to "update their records"

If they don't fix it, then call back and ask for their address because your insurance company wants you to file a fraud report with the local police and the FTC (unfortunately the FTC online fraud filing site is down due to the shutdown!). No small business wants that kind of record handing around at their local police station. You can also send a copy of the fraud report to BoatUS. That will get their attention :D

You've got the tow company over a barrel because they probably don't have any evidence of the tow including a description of you, the boat, and certainly not a picture (which they usually take for just this sort of argument).
