Winerization. Anemometer

So. I live in northeast. New England. Boat is stored with mast up
Have an autohelm st50 wind anemometer that works
Any harm in leaving the transducer at the top of the mast over the winter
Does the freezing, snow and continuous wind "burn" the tranducer out
Or do people just leave it up

Here in north eastern Washington State we have bad, snowy winter wether and our anemometers come through ok. Should not be a problem.

In both WI and NY Lake Ontario we leave them up all winter.

Northern Lake Michigan, mine has been left on the mast for seven winters. It still works fine, the only problem is that the yard guys bent the shaft about 30 degrees off center last spring. I took it off this fall,and am trying to figure out how to straighten it without kinking it.

The bearings DO wear. It takes 10 seconds to take the wand off the base, and 10 to put it back in the spring. You can leave it up, but if you're thinking about it why not just go take it down?

Different scenario since my mast comes down every year. I take it out, cover the base with a plastic bag and re-install in the spring. As Jackday says, 10 seconds is all it takes once you're up there. My ST-60 wind meter has now been going on without a problem for 14 years. I believe removing it has helped.
