Hello,
I just picked up a 1980 S2 7.3 and the mast lights don't work. While I am replacing them I figured I may as well convert to LED and replace the wiring, windex and everything else up there while I'm either up there or drop the mast. The question is can I just replace the bulb in the existing fixture with an LED or do I need a whole new fixture? In either case, where and what should I need?
Thanks in advance for your help.

if you have the origanal anchor light you will have to up grade to somthing newer...the old one is not really worth trying to save and the bulb is a power hog at best....assuming you have the old style PERKO anchor light .....

On the C27 I replaced mine. The bulb did not fit the height of the unit so I turned a ring out of nylon to raise the glass enclosure and it now fits just fine.

I found it on Ebay and it appears brighter than the old incandescent bulb. How would you measure bright enough? I plan on using refective tape on the C-27 additionally. I had them on my Mac 25 and it was very bright at night.

Exterior lighting has CG certification as a unit. This makes a simple bulb swap a potential legal problem. However I have to think that cleaning the lenses and swapping in some LEDs would be an improvement, at least for power draw. But they may actually be dimmer. I was looking at LEDs for the tail lights of my classic car and saw some comparisons on YouTube which made me rethink it as they were dimmer. Also, note that LED color should match lens color for best performance from what I have seen and read.

I changed out my interior bulbs with LEDs and have been very happy with the results, although I should pull some corroded reflectors and paint them.
