Hello,
I'm a novice who's been lurking around here for a couple of years. This site has already been a tremendous resource, so thank you. When I got the boat, it had a 150 rf genoa that was just about at the end of it's life. Now I would like to switch to hanks to keep the weight down when stepping the mast. My forestay has a threaded fitting on the bottom, which is what is recommended for roller furling, but I'm not sure why. Would this be okay to use with hanks, or do I need a new forestay? Also, if it matters, I have a johson lever to assist with pinning the forestay. Thanks in advance.

if the reason for going to hank on jib is ease of trailering and launching,
then I would unbolt the roller furling forestay you have now, and get just get a new one.

Yep that would be the way to go. We got our new forestay from riggingonly.com for about $45 so I think they could make up one for even less for your application by giving them the overall length.

You could possibly make one up yourself but getting the tools for that would be price prohibited. If you are near a West Marine you can use their tools if they have them.

The stock one just...

... has crimped on sleeves. You might be able to use the turnbuckle you have now with different ends on it or with the Johnson lever and some careful measurements you might be able to skip the turnbuckle.

I made up new shrouds and a backstay and that info is here...

...but had to have the forestay made as it needs a turnbuckle fitting on one end that has to be rotary swaged on,

Thanks for the replies. The bwy page shows a forestay for hank on jib with a triangular metal plate on it. This plate appears to be about a foot from the bottom loop and has a few holes in it. Anyone know what that is for? My guess is that it is something that should be very obvious to me, and I'll have to smack myself when I find out what it is. Thanks.
