I recently built a couple of access covers and need to seal the edges. In the past I've used unthickened epoxy for this job. However I'm wondering if there is a reason not use Polyurethane? I was thinking something like a minwax clear outdoor Poly sealer. Is this a bad idea? Thanks in advance....

you can use almost anything yop like as long as it is oil base...a good spar varnish is ok too...i personally like epoxy but will use oil based products from time to time...as Stu would say your boat your choice lol.... the main thing is cover the raw edges with some thing ...oh and make sure you hand sand with 120 or 150 grit paper to help bond the paint...

Inside the boat either will serve the desired purpose. From a time standpoint assuming both are available I will use Epoxy; it will be serviceable in a shorter period of time.

Thanks for the feedback. I have both on hand and have always used epoxy, but find the poly easier to work with...
