Hello All

I recently bought a 2002 393. We love it. One small issue/annoyance though. She lists to port about 5 degrees. There's a next gen 3.5 kw gen set in the port cockpit locker 60 lbs. and a reverse cycle AC unit under the port settee ( weight? ). Beyond that I can find no reason for the listing. Has anyone else had this issue with this boat? Would it be okay. To offset the weight with something heavy on the starboard side? Thanks for you answers!

More than likely the genset is the biggest contributor to the list. Look also where your batteries are placed. Any weight that could be moved to starboard would definitely counteract the list. A lot of boats apparently list slightly due to weight placement. Even moving things closer to the centerline can help.

My very large and heavy house battery is entirely to starboard. Starter battery is dead center. It's a mystery

You might want to check with the 393 owners group on yahoo. They might be the best source for info. Our 423 has a slight list to starboard attributed to starboard side galley, forward head etc. we balance it out by keeping the starboard stern water tank full and packing all of the heavy storage under the port side settee.

I just learned that the gen set weighs 300 lbs. so I think I Lund the culprit. He suggested some "lead pigs" ( about 75 lbs total) be carefully secured on the starboard side just forward of the mast.

More like 350lbs of lead. But why bother, it doesn't affect sailing. Keep your forward water tank full and your aft water tank light. My 411 lists starboard for the same reasons.

The BEST lead pigs you can buy are BATTERIES!

I insalled 3 new group31 AGM batteries under the starboard aft stateroom, and removed a 4D lead acid in the port lazarette to fix my list.

Check that the rig is centered. My boat listed to starboard when I purchased her and the problem was that the rig was not centered.

Joe, the traditional method is to raise a line with a weight (a "PLUMB BOB") with a halyard to see what it does compared to the mast.

The OP's boat is not sitting level, so i don't thank that will work. Raise a tape measure with the halyard and measure to the same point on each toe rail.

I put a level on the main sheet track just behind the companionway and one on the mast. We leveled the boat using ballast and then found that the mast was not plumb. We then adjusted the shrouds accordingly. When we were done the list was gone. The traditional method of measuring from the top of the mast to the chain plates did nit work because we think the boat is twisted a little. Making the chain plate heights a little different by about an inch. It sounds hard to believe but that is what we found.
