The one inch stainless tubing steps on our boarding ladder are painful to our bare feet. I saw rubber molding formed to fit the tubing held on by screws and formed as 2 inch steps on top. The owner of the boat (purchased used) had no info as to where this material came from. Do any of you have an idea as to a source??? thanks for any help.

Years ago on a previous sailboat we had the same issue. I cut my own teak steps and fastened them with a stainless steel strap that was shaped to go around the tube. I still have a bunch of the stainless straps at home and they are available to anyone for the shipping cost. I don't remember if they were made for a 1" tube or a 7/8" tube but if anyone is interested I'll measure them when I get home in another 8-9 days. The straps were bent in a special purpose jig in a machine shop at my employer. They just need to be drilled for screws.

Rich, I'm interested in doing just that. From memory the tube is 1" but I'll doublecheck today when at the boat and get back to you re size and qty needed. And if it works I'll gladly take them off your hands. Thanks for the offer. Claude

Yes, they are from Plasteak. I gave them the diameter of the steel and they even hollowed out a groove on the bottom of the slats to better fit the ladder. Only problem is that since the slats are wider than the ladder, the slats touch the transom when the ladder is folded back. I solved that issue by placing 2 smalll adhesive rubber bumpers on the transom where the plasteak slats contact the transom. I use the small clear type used under glass table tops.

Teak Steps

We have teak steps I got somewhere. Then we got the ladder to my brothers drill press and drilled holes in the ladder steps at the right angle to make them horizontal with the ladder in position, and fastened them with stainless bolts.

Mod is about 8 years old with no maintenance needed.
