Anyone know if a bow roller will fit without doing the bowsprit mods? If so, which one? And a pick of it installed would be awesome.

I did on my 30. Pic tomorrow night (Though I got a new Mantus anchor and I going to replace the roller with a bigger one.)

Gaurhauer AR-35, works great. 1/4" starboard to fit the wedge from plastic bow cap to anchor well edge. Replaced large hollow aluminum bow cleat with 12" stainless solid cleat. I added 2 titanium 1"x1/4"x8" bars (one on each side) to provide a means to secure the 22# bruce anchor in place. Top hole is a bolt parking place for 3/8" bolt. This will also hold my 35 lb CQR, but I prefer the stainless Bruce. 5 - 4"x5/16 carriage bolts hold the roller to the bow. Now I have a great place to attach the asym spinnicker tack; the roller loop. I cut 4-5" of toe rail back to provide room for new 6" SS skeen chocks.

Gizzard, the anchor looks a little close to the bow. Do you have a problem with the anchor hitting the bow?

Yeah Frankie, That's why I mentioned that I need a bigger roller. I just got the new anchor and MD visits have precluded me from making the switch.

CRICH- Looks great... did you have to reinforce the deck at the bow? Mine looks pretty beefy already.

Hi Ed, I did not feel I needed to reinforce the bow where the roller attached. The fiberglass is about 3+ inches thick where the bolts go through. I could add a 3/4" shim/spacer between the port side of the roller and the forestay bow brack and attach the bow roller to the bracket with a 5/16" bolt, but observing the roller while under asym spinniker sail and the spinniker tack attached to the roller bale, it does not move a hair in any direction so it verified my assessment that it was not really required.

While sailing from NJ to Block Island on the outside (Atlantic Ocean) we passed through the Montauk Pt rip. We hit a pretty deep standing wave and burried the bow. The roller/anchor took the full force and the 3/8" bolt securing the anchor to the roller was bent about 1/4" at the mid-point of the span between the titanium bars. No issue with the titanium, roller or its attachment points. It posed a slight challenge to remove the bolt from the Ti brackets. However, the bolt straightened easily with a few blows with a 16oz. hammer.

A picture of Arpeggio flying her spinniker can be seen here: http://www.richgard.com/H33Images/IMG_2922.jpg
This is a large file. If you do not have a high speed link, the download may take a while. A low res version has been attached.

Rich: Thanks for the info; I hope to install a roller this winter... Now about your A-Sym, did you have to modify anything at the top of the mast to fly it? Ed H

The PO had the block and halyard installed so I am not sure what was done. I will speak to my marina master about it. He just installed the windex 15 a month ago. He may be able to recall what he saw.

Rich- I was able to download and copy the hi-res picture. I then zoomed-in on your masthead and was able to see it pretty well... It does not look like anything like a "crane" was added... I was also able to see how you ran your lines. Thanks for posting that; it was a great help. Ed H
