Which Are The Best New Jersey Inlets?

I'm sure this has been asked before but after Sandy I'd like an update. Besides Cape May and Atlantic City what other inlets are easiest to enter and leave from along the NJ coast? I may be sailing alone on this leg and would like some advice. Once inside I'd prefer to anchor so if you can offer safe places that would be great too.

Barnegat is good in settled weather and has anchorages inside. But it is a very tricky, bizarre path into the anchorage. Manasquan is a good inlet but no room to anchor.

Most of the local Towboat US and Seatow operations will take your phone call and give you guidance on getting in. A few are reluctant but most are very helpful.

The same goes for Atlantic Highlands and Keyport as well. Both are nice but like most Jersey inlets they are sparsely marked and channels are narrow. Always take it slow and easy.

We did take a shallow draft 4' 4" h34 on the inside from Atlantic City to Manasquan. A weather system had moved in and we had theatre tickets to a show in Broadway. We were at Trump's Marina and a boat had come in during the night and they indicated they had taken shelter by entering one of the inlets and coming down on the inside. They advised us that there was adequate depth in the channel but also warned us to stay away from the inlets without someone with local knowledge. You have to be alert and stay in the channel and there are a few bridges to contend with. In our case by the time we reached Manasquan the weather system had blown through and we had clear sailing to Sandy Hook. We did it leisurely in two days lingering for the weather to clear. There are places to anchor and the trip is quite pleasant. Did not see any boats our size and got a few stares like what are you doing here but never touched bottom.
