A soft delete allows us mods to view the deleted post and restore it if we feel if can be fixed. For instance, we receive a 'Report Post' alert. One of us may get to the post faster than the other three and soft delete it. The other three will have a means to review the reported post.

Hard delete means it is gone and we cannot access it anymore.

If one feels really passionate about a subject in discussion and really wants to speak their mind, start a new thread in the War Room. That is what it is there for. I can say that all of us mods have done that. Yes, even we sometimes get passionate about some subjects. If you do not have access to the War Room it is not because you are not worthy, LOL, just ask for permission and it will be given. However, a fair warning, it can get brutal in there. We do moderate the WR but not as much as the regular forums. And... one must abide the the very lengthy list of rules in the WR.

A soft delete is what it between post #19 and #20 on the first page of this thread. We can see it, you can't see it and we could choose to edit and restore it if necessary. That post was beyond editing. If we hard delete there is no place holder and it is like the post never existed.

I agree with Maine Sail: Rude and aggressive posts are the top priority for me, too. We have many new sailors here and I believe it's important to keep the culture safe for them to ask questions without fear of ridicule.

A close second is politics. Advertising is third for me, too, but I have to admit it does increase my pulse rate.

Wow .................................

Referring to another forum members wife whom he does not know and has never met:
"Cut this woman lose. She is very bad news !
I married a woman like this once it was 5 years of hell !!! I had many friends warn me about this woman and I did not listen. One of the biggest mistakes of my life. I bet this one has a looney tune switch also."

And this one to a newbie looking to buy a Catalina:
"my friend, from what i have read from you and the repiles i have seen, you are heading for a big fail because you are stupid and uneducated."

.............................. I'd pay good money to to read this stuff in the original, unedited and uncensored version.

Any chance you'll be putting out a book in the SBO store in the near future :D ?

In the past we have had a couple of members that were constantly picking a quarrel and making mountains out of groundhog mounds. one or two of them seemed to target me and I politely suggested that their mother should bite them when they returned to their kennel. That would get the thread deleted.
