I would like to replace the hoses from the incoming water valve to the impeller with hard wall hose. The hoses that are currently on the boat are 5/8 ID. When I pulled a hose off the barb was 1/2 inch. Does anyone have an idea of the correct setup?

Dick,

First, I assume you have an intake strainer. What size is the outlet connection?

I believe the hose size is 5/8". Look to see if a reducing barb fitting was installed in the water pump and/or the strainer. If what you said is true, a 5/8" into a 1/2" barb, I wonder how they tightened it without it leaking??? You never said anything about this.

Keep the same size hose & barb fittings between strainer & pump (inlet & discharge). What was the discharge hose size & barb size, they should all be 5'8".

The 5/8 ID hoses that are on the boat was not hard wall. It appears that the hoses that are on the boat are incorrect so, wanted to check to see what everyone else has on their 5411

I have been told to use hard wall hose. It is rubber reinforced with wire so that it cannot collapse(about $7/ft)

D,

Wire reinforced is used in high temp. & pressure applications.
They are not needed for your project.

My strainer is hard piped from the thru-hull to the strainer. But, from the strainer to the pump, simple automobile hose is required, nothing more. The engine vibrates so solid is out.

Just make sure you don't overthink this pal.....
