Hi,
Took pedestal apart yesterday, :( section that holds throttle and shift levers cracked at shift lever bolt, need new part Y321-0110.
Can someone confirm that Hunter 28.5 1987 vintage has edson pedestal?
No specifics in my owners manual and other paperwork.
Spent many days redoing bottom this spring, don't want to be stuck in slip now that she is finally afloat!
Appreciate all input, thanks!

Lisa,

If it looks like mine then its not Edson. Its the Yacht Specialties Control Head Assembly. The company went belly up over 20 years ago. Recently mine broke too and I have a temporary solution (not pretty, but it is working). Trying to figure out a better solution.

Thanks Allan, this is exactly what I have, 7 inch dia. 2 inch ht.
Do you have more info on the pedestal? Would you be willing to email it to me?
I may try to have a friend fabricate a new one.

Mine was cracke as well. I made a mold from the old one and obtained some fast setting plastic from a company called Fibertech in Vancouver. This stuff is very cool although hot as the chemical reaction takes place. Bought a can of release agent, sprayed the mold, set it up on a very level surface, mixed the 2part plastic and poured it in. I made the mold from an old crazy carpet. The first one cracked on me as I had a wood plug in the middle of it for the hollow part and was a little aggressive getting it out so I will try again. The rest of it is absolutely bomber though.

Good idea Allan but there is a company in Everett, WA that makes an aluminum shifter that replaces the one on our Merriman pedestals.

I paid about $160 3 years ago and had it powder coated white before installing. Has worked flawlessly since.

Did the same on my 34, Claude.. mine had to be replaced about 10 years ago.. Expensive, but it is a "one shot" deal.. ya probably never have to replace it again.

Claude, great info, will call and see if they can make one for my pedestal.
In mean time, a friend helped me repair mine, including a backer plate.
See attached photo!

Claude L-A,

I spoke to the guys at Joe's recently and they no longer make the part as the company that supplied the casting to them for final machining burned down. No more mold to die cast.

Lisa,

Your friend came up with an elegant solution to reattach that piece to the control head. Mine was so completely shattered that I can't do that. Also, I can't get that piece off the cable even after removing the little screw.

When the throttle cable broke on my Merriman, I checked the manual and found the diagram in Allan's post. I noted that the original design called for both cables to have supports [item 1 in the thumbnail], but later Hunter assemblies eliminated the support for the throttle cable [which is exactly where my cable failed]. I wanted mine as originally designed so I emailed just about every salvage yard I could find on the internet and finally got a response. I was able to buy the supports for both the cables. I can't remember now who had the pedestal parts, but I suspect if you do the same thing, it's more than likely you will get a hit and save yourself well over $100.

Hi, yes, I got same answer, no longer making them, bummer.
Will try the salvage yard approach. Seems like this type of 'need' would be a perfect addition to an auto related fab shop, an additional sales item?
Have to reach out to some auto racing contacts,
Thanks for ongoing input!
