I just logged onto my BoatUS insurance policy and was shown the warning that my policy was inactive!

I'm on the phone with them now, but it seems there was a failure with my automatic payment setup on their end, and my policy didn't renew as it was supposed to (it did just fine last year, I suspect it's a result of the underwriter change they are going through)...

They are trying to fix it now, hopefully it won't be an issue (aside from the fact that it turns out I haven't had insurance for the last 3 weeks)... but if you had automatic payments setup for your policy, log on today and make sure it renewed properly!

Just got a call back and everything worked out fine. Since they could see that I had it on auto pay and their system somehow stopped auto paying, they amended it to reflect no lapse in coverage, and I'm all set now. Their customer service was easy to deal with, and they did not give me a hard time at all, and freely told me that it was their failure and it wouldn't reflect in any way against me.

Also while I was at it, I got my coverage increased another $5k to reflect the additions and upgrades I've done over the last couple years (fuel system, electrical system, inverter, auto pilot, new sails, as a few examples), and it only added $62 to my premium.

Customer Service Win for Boat US, I'm staying around for another year as a happy customer...

They should have offered you a 3 week pro-rated refund.

not a bad point, but then I would have a lapse in coverage, which would cost me more in the "no claim" and "duration of coverage" discounts I have, than the 3 week refund would be worth.

Well

My Boat got dropped by my first Boatus insurer and NEW papers went out which stopped and automatic renewal

As much as I would like to gripe in the NY area after Sandy there trying to get OUT of insuring older boats and they did find me new coverage

I kind of thought how hard could that be and it is a BIT HARD on a 1970 boat now for no real reason as I have a clean out of the water 2011 survey

Mind you I have had continual coverage with them from 1995 and it was the insurer not them

Boat us sent me a quote. It was for $1000 coverage with a $1000 deductible. Haha it cost 3x a liability only policy. Now who would buy $1000 coverage with a $1000 deductible.
