hunter 2000 240 long island
Hi i have a 2000 Hunter 240 and other sailors have told me my rig is very loose and may be dangerous. I have went through the manual and it has no info on tuning it. there are some post from other owners about there ideas about how they tune their rigs. but nothing direct from hunter. I have a rigger that will help but he would like info direct from the manufacter. Has anyone come across a link or info of the proper way to tune a Hunter b&r Rig or a way to contact hunter to get any info they can give me. Thanks

On my 23 (which may not be the same as the 240) I adjust the mast centering by using a long (100 ft I think) open reel tape measure pulled up the halyard - I got mine at Harbor Freight, fairly inexpensive (under $10?). I measure side to side and use the upper stays to get it centered and then tighten the turnbuckles until it feels tight - I don't have a tension gauge. Then I tighten the lowers by feel, sighting directly up the mast track to ensure the mast is straight.

This is the procedure I used. Sailed well afterwords.
Thanks Dan I have come across this link and so far this is the only real info I have found. This may be accurate info but what i was looking for was tensions and procedures direct from a hunter factory manual. the rigger im getting help from does not want info from a owner that tuned his boat without factory specs. I was surprised nothing in then owners manual or online for such a common rig. The link you sent me is the only real info i can find. I want to try to contact hunter by phone but so far cant find a number to customer service. Thanks for your responce .

The best source of info on these water ballast hunters is right here on sbo. Crazy Dave Condon was a big part of the design team on these models and knows more than hunter themselves. I would search his profile here and pm him. I'm thinking the hunter people won't be much help imho.

The owner of www.h260.com worked directly with Hunter to get the information on tuning the B&R rig specific to the H260. He did this because Hunter has not published this information. He was a regular forum poster when this boat was first released and developed good contacts with Hunter to ferret out a wealth of information that is lacking in the owner's manual.

I would expect a professional rigger to have their own resources and not rely on the customer to provide the needed information.

In my opinion sailors with trailer boats, where the mast gets rigged every time the boat is launched, should take the time to learn how to tune it. A professional rigger can't be on-hand each time.
